Yes, the us had tens of thousands to choose from and had home ice, Slovenia has 120 players in total, thats the equivalent of a pub team beating a top ten team in the world. Let me remind you,120 players, thats probably the number of fans on this board, do you think we could get a football team together and beat a top ten side in the world 3-0? You do know the US won the gold in that tournament hence they were the best team overall?
No I have NOT seen the film. Only seen a documentary many years ago. Would have no problem admitting if I'd seen it, I'm a sucker for "true" stories. Love 'Remember the Titans' for instance.
Then I would argue it's a bigger shock that Norway is ranked as a top 10 nation with only 41 ice rinks and NONE in the Northern half of the country. This picture shows the difference with nr of ice rinks in yellow and population below. 30 years ago Norway and Finland had the same amount of ice rinks. please log in to view this image
Miracle on ice as a movie is bit dull sugar coated hollywood story about underdogs beating great favourites. The real miracle on ice was nothing short of a miracle in itself. Sovjet Union was so overwhelming those days against other countries (without NHL players). The match showed what a teamspirit in a reasonable skillfull team can do. Sovejets were a bit a triumphant and arrogants and that was enough to lose the final against marvellously spirited Team USA. Great win but it had gone a exaggerated folklore in a US media.
Slovenias win today is really a suprise. The other suprise is that their player Ziga Jeglic whom my team Ãssät throw away (he was really bad) in november has scored 2 goals and assist 1 against Russia and Slovakia!
Russia's 2. line with Ovechkin and Malkin is awesome. Have put some money on Russia to win the second period. Will probably be up to Ovechkin to do it, what a shot he's got!
Exactly my point, its been re written and exaggerated. The US college system is also massive which people fails to realise, they are a professional standard and would beat a lot of countries in several sports. If only the flyers had kept bobrovsky instead of that head case bryzgalov. Also, how does Norway only have 40 odd rinks. I know there isn't a rink within 50 miles of me,not sure if they are more popular up north.
Why do Americans think that every time an American or American team wins something it's the most famous thing in the world. Derek Jetera baseball player has just announced he is retiring after this season and articles I've read describe him as one of the most famous athletes in the world... please..
Russians could be overwheming if they played thight as a team and if they do nobody could prevent them to win olympic gold. Luckily for other countries some of their more skillful players seems to play for themselves sometimes. However with Ovetskin, Malkin, Radulov and Kovaltshuk they are no1 favourites while playing in their own country
Thats a joke in the rules that its not allowed to stand, goalies will be knocking the net off all the time now.
They're just a team full of taarabts. All looking for the flashy play instead of looking for the ugly goals.
Think it was for the deflection off a high stick, but if it proves to be for the net issue then they have opened a big can of worms, and you may well be right flyer.
That would be allowed in the NHL unless its debatable that it would normally have gone in or not. I was wondering why the officiating was so one sided, it turns out a yank is Reffing.
