Tonight I shall go and have a drink for Margaret Thatcher's death. I shall raise my glass to the night sky, and THANK HER, and celebrate her life. People on this seem to have a very strange view of history. So here are a few little nuggets with how and more specifically WHY a lot of industries were destroyed by her, and what's more, destroyed with the MANDATE OF THE BRITISH PEOPLE. The seventies were blighted by the trade unions waiting for winter and then coming out on strike at it's heart. Holding the country to ransom for ANNUAL pay rises of up to 36% ABOVE inflation. This was the likes of Scargill and co. And they bled us dry. We were bankrupted by them. And then the Winter of Discontent happened. And they ALL came out. Miners, power workers, transport workers; even funeral directors, everything tied into the TGWU came out. My own grandparents lay on a slab for 2 months waiting to be buried. The entire country was a ruin. Rubbish not collected for months, rats everywhere. And the unions laughed, and brought down Callaghan's Labour Government. And Thatcher stood up at the General Election and made ONE SIMPLE PROMISE. Elect me. And THIS WILL NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN. ELECT ME AND I WILL DESTROY THEM. She won a landslide. On that promise. And she became the last elected Prime Minister to actually hold true to her election promise. She did exactly what she said. She utterly destroyed the unions. Obliterated them. The cost was those industries. We knew that would be the price. But we would not allow them to hold us to ransom again. What she did, she did with our BLESSING. The socialists and people who backed those strikes have only themselves to blame for what happened. Baroness Thatcher didn't destroy those industries and communities for fun or as part of a class war. She did it to stop them holding the country to ransom again. And then she held the purse strings tight and re-built the economy and the country and Britain again stood tall and thrived. And we won back the global respect we had lost while the left wing ruled. In the Falklands we were thankful for her being in office. Those who went 'south' in '82 did so knowing we had a leader who would not - and did not- interfere. She sent the military and allowed them to do the job. Gave us the money, the equipment and most of all THE FREEDOM to get the job done. Our lands had been invaded. We had a gun up our nose. SHE led us. Frankly Thatcher took a very broken Britain by the hand like a strict old fashioned Matron and LED THE COUNTRY BACK TO WHERE IT HAD ONCE BEEN. We were the worlds 3rd major power in ALL respects. And as for the world, it has NEVER been safer than when Thatcher was in Downing Street, Reagan was in the White House and Gorbachev was in the Kremlin as the three spoke DAILY. They laid the ground for the fall of the Berlin Wall. The Russians were TERRIFIED of her. And the world again feared Britain. And lets not forget that she gave people the full right to buy their own council property. Her vision was that the TENNANT and the tennant alone could buy that property. As soon as her party stabbed her in the back the feeding frenzy began as under her the famous Tory grandee greed was held in check. So they stabbed her, led by the europro traitor ponce Heseltine - who didn't have the guts to face her openly and alone - they arranged her removal. And we have been a broken patsy for europe ever since. So yes, tonight I will celebrate the death of Baroness Thatcher, with thanks, with respect, and with sadness, because she allowed me to know what we could be, what we could achieve, what it meant to be BRITISH

Reform was needed. What wasn't needed was the bitterness and hatred that went beyond reform and closed profitable pits, bulldozed steelworks so that they could never be resurrected, the policy of not replacing housing stock sold (specifically banned by Mrs T) and the acceptance that people were just numbers and that unemployment was a price worth paying for the benefit of the financiers and the city. The benefit bills of today are the product of the uncaring policies of yesteryear!

'No interference' eh? The invasion of the Falklands was one of the worst kept secrets of all time. It was known about by the Anglo community in Argentina several weeks before it happened. Thatcher did absolutely nothing about it in spite of the fact she would have been given good intelligence. Instead, she ruthlessly and brutallly exploited the situation in order to bolster her flagging popularity. Remember the General Belgrano? Sunk at Thatcher's behest with the loss of 323 lives despite sailing away from the exclusion zone and 14 hours after the Peruvian President proposed a peace deal.

Unsurprisingly she also tried to stop the BBC from revealing the realities of the war, since no doubt she had plenty to hide.

As for the unions 'having too much power' working people would be so much worse off without them. It's a pity they can't stick as close to their unions as Thatcher and her cronies stuck to the people who got them into power, ie the bankers, financiers and industrialists. At least THEY knew where their bread was buttered.

I doubt there will be many tears shed for her up here.

The thing with politics is you will never please everyone, one person gets their
    Wishes another loses out.
Thatcher did some decent stuff but also screwed up
I had family members effected by the strikes in the 80s so know the negatives.

We could look at the previous government who rewarded people to sit on their arse rather then go out and work.

Anyway I am not interested in talking politics as its just a goes around in a vicious circle

One thing I do know is that I can't understand people who say stuff like burn in hell, let's celebrate someone is dead
Wtf she was still someone's daughter
    And someones mother regardless.

She tried to bring in Football Passports. Without which one couldn't get into a match.

For that, and that alone, football ought to have nothing to do with her.

Paragraphs are your friend. But on the subject at hand she did then deregulate the banks which then came full circle and almost bankrupt the country and seen the country held to ransom by the bankers responsible

She essentially created a civil war (not her mandate at all... it sickens me some people believe such) in her disrespect for the working man. Unruly trade unions are one thing, but having arseholes on both sides of that particular line hardly covers up the fact that the numero uno c*** was named Thatcher. She was a complete megalomaniac devoid of morals and bankrupt of sentiment. It escapes me how anyone can extend into such hyperbolic ass-kissing without noticing that their aimless right-hooks at Union leaders would be as true, if not more so, of that rat-faced bint... Just swap her name for there's.

The economics she inflicted upon the country sent practically half the population back to the stone age and the rest into some tax-wise untouchable stratosphere. And anyone who falls for the tired old "let's fight a war we can easily win against inferior-equiped peasants under the tutelage of crack-pot leaders over a god-forsaken half-acre" politics of a failing government as proof of success? Just wow. Oldest trick in the play-book to inspire a bit of nationalism when they're due to be buried without trace.

I didn't think Dave Whelan could go any lower in my eyes, he's actually calling for a minutes silence before KO's this weekend, well Good Luck with that one mate.

Looks like the media will be ramming this story down our throats for some time yet, taking a break from the William and Kate soap I guess!

    The Lady's not for returning!

Surely to God that minutes silence is a Wum,I'll be there on Sunday and her legacy has left more long lasting damage to the North East, even the Sunderland lads took down their miners banner over Di Canio.I'm Irish and I have my own dislikes of Thatcher but no way would SJP have a moments silence!!
