Sometimes one man can rise above a nation and command respect from everyone, Mandela was one such man. South Africa owes him so much and he will be remembered as the greatest statesman of his generation. RIP <rose>

A great man indeed.

I remember protesting in the 80's outside the South African high commission in Trafalgar Square for his release.

RIP big man.

Remember the Paul Mc Grath song, ooh ah Paul McGrath?

When Mandela first came to Ireland the crowds sang "ooh ahh Paul Mc Grath's Da".

To have faced all that he did and to undertake the role of first black president with such statesmanship and with focus on moving forward, rather than anger at the past shows what a true inspiration he has been not only to his country but to the world. RIP Nelson Mandela.

I'm fortunate enough to be going to his funeral. A true legend. He'll never be forgotten

Been to s.africa a few times, and can't think of another man who in my time has made such a difference to so many, by standing for what he believes. RIP

In an era where the word legend is bandied around all too easily, Nelson Mandela was one in his own lifetime and beyond. A true inspiration to mankind - the way of grace, love and peace is always a better way, it's not an easy path to follow and can involve much suffering; I'm grateful for the true role-model this man was, and let's not forget he was just a man made of flesh and blood like the rest of us, may we each play our part in extending his legacy.

Such a great man. I am lucky enough to have lived in an age that has improved the world due to the heroic action of men like Nelson Mandela & Martin Luther King.

The biggest accolade that could be paid to him is if South Africa continues to unite as a nation where all races are treated equally.
