Although it goes way way back, the most recent troubles started in the latest. 60's i believe. And the British forces were sent to protect? I'll let you read up on that one.

Maybe you can also read up a bit more on Mcguinness and adams.

You mentioned Stone, now he was a nutter, i still remember him hoying handgrenades at the funeral......

    It's a fascinating subject.....in a macabre way of course <whistle>

One of the things that surprised me was the amount of in-fighting that went on....human nature I guess. The Loyalist paramilitaries didn't mind a bit of blood-letting amongst themselves. And that's the thing Comm, the Troubles were a product of their time and violence bred violence. They've moved on (well, hopefully most of them have), they are out of the habit of killing each other.

I had left it, and said you were correct, after all your books give you all the information you need to know, in order to make up your own mind about what really went on.

Come on Comm, you tell us what went on then (without TV, any forms of media or hearsay).

Let's have it in your own words from your own personal experience.

    Villain or hero?

One mans terrorist is another's freedom fighter and all that.

Whatever your feelings on Paisley it cannot be ignored that he was a massive political figure and influence in Northern Ireland's history and without his consent, the peace process would never have happened.

He will never be forgotten that's for sure.

Well I'm rather chilled tonight & I quite like Dorty but I'll tell you this.
It's alright for some to read their books & sit in front of the telly, watching the news, moralising.
Majority of the sympathisers probably haven't even been to Ulster.
Seven ****ing tours I did in that hell hole.
It was a ****ed up place for sure.
Belfast I could handle like a piece of piss.
    Crossmaglen & Londonderry were different.
It was a very hectic time back in the 80's.

Can any of you think of another western European nation that has terrorists sitting in parliament?
I've actually pissed on Bobby Sands grave up at old Milltown Cemetery.
All these tourists wanting to take photo's of it, the sad ****s.
It get's on my tits a bit tbh.

I admire and respect the lads who have served their time during the troubles, but that does not give them a monopoly of the knowings of the political goings on..

It doesn't RAW. And those closest to the face don't always see the bigger picture. But it does give them the right to present the true ugly reality that most of us are fortunate never to see.

Billy and Comm would never say they knew the full story, or knew more about the politics of the period than anyone else. But they were there as were several of my family in the same role, and you're absolutely right, they deserve our respect for having to deal with the **** that others dealt out.
