Your welcome but i do think that international socialism could have maybe work in theory but it is/was an awful in practise.
I've been ill with the novo virus for a couple of days and the body clock was f**ked after a week in Japan followed by a fun but heavy weekend at a friend's place. I was supposed to be in Brussels this week but felt so bad on Monday morning I cancelled and retreated to bed, slept, with regular visits to the bathroom, for about 24 hours straight, and took it very easy yesterday. As a result I've had a lot of sleep for a change and I have to say I feel really good today, nice and sharp round the edges. Doubtless that will collapse as soon as I log off here and on to work. Note to self: sleep more, its not a waste of the little time you have left. Plus I love threads like this one, where you actually learn stuff and people provide some real insights into themselves, especially compared to the endlessly circular and repetitive ones about QPR. If it wasn't for the OT threads I'd be out of here pretty quickly.
Thanks Nines, I really enjoyed that. I remember the original BBC "The Great War" series in the 1960's? with that iconic photo in the intro each episode of a soldier with a moustache in a trench - I believe they attempted to track down exactly who he was? I think the Radio Times ran a story about that soldier and a teenage girl commented that he meant more to her than the Beatles. During WWI my Grandfather, 1st gen R, was away in France with the Royal Engineers and my 2nd gen R Father, born 1916, was named "Victor" for victory. My Grandfather carried a French Franc dated 1916 in his pocket for good luck through his war service, which my Father also carried through WWII with the 3rd County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters) tank regiment. I have a collection of those postcards sent home from the front - they don't say much, likely due to censorship, and are often a picture of a French village church where the name has been scratched out by someone, perhaps with a penknife.
