In Ireland if you are gay the state doesn't even recognise you exist.

I remember the "gay bashing" that used to go on in Dublin, it was in the 80's though. People have definitely copped on back home for the most part.

When exactly did being gay turn into a bad thing, go back to other times and men shagging men was as common as f**k.

Spartans when they came of age went into the army and paired up with a senior soldier and they fought and shagged together for years, eventually when the lad returned to take a woman, quite often the woman would have to shave her head and take it from behind to make it seem more man on man.

The Greeks couldn't get enough of it. A line form some show or other I watched in the past, "The Greeks invented sex but the Romans thought of having it with women" <laugh>

in Australia for a long long time it was an animal a man or your hand or some kind of fruit.

When did it become destructive force destroying the fabric of modern society? Well that's not true, gay people would never harm fabric :D

Ha ha ha, you gotta love the ruskies.

Over last few days journos have complained about the state of the rooms, lack of water, poisonous water etc etc.

I kid you not this was the response of kozak their deputy PM:

.*"We have surveillance video from the hotels that shows people turn on the shower, direct the nozzle at the wall and then leave the room for the whole day,"

So the spy cameras the state installed IN the rooms proves the journos were lying and the water is on ha ha ha

He was dragged away by an aide before he could talk about the truth serum and chips inserted in the gays........

Some very funny and interesting truths there Sisu. <laugh>

I watched a program a few months back about Greek men who mentored young boys. The would bum the boys until they were of age and we deemed as men. You're never fully a man until you have been bummed. <ok>

Its easy to compare Russia to Nazi Germany and reduce the argument to Hitler comparisons.

I won't lie and I will openly say that I have cultural biases towards Russia and its people, sharing a common Slavic root.
But I live in the West and I see both sides.

In Russia the gays are marginalised and now criminalised. They want equality under the law and to be treated fairly. This I can't see anyone disagreeing with in the modern era.

However, if you look at historical examples of movements such as the black rights movement and the LGBT community's efforts in the 70s-90s, you see many different trends. For one they did not try to promote awareness through spectacles such as parades (or if they did it was for serious discussion) or camp events. They fought until they were accepted legally and constitutionally in Canada, Australia, and the Netherlands. As time went on, more countries accepted this.

Then you see Russia - historically despised and feared by the west, isolated, ostracised. Throughout European history Russia has been the black sheep, only accepted through common enemies (the Nazis). Even then many politicians and even average people preferred the Nazi regime over Stalin's communism. McCarthyism started instantly in the US and other western European nations and the cold war caused the suffering of millions in Russia.

The whole scene is set for the emergence of the gays as a propaganda tool. Lately the US and NATO have clashed with Russia over topics such as Yugoslavia, then Georgia, Libya, Egypt, Syria. A new cold war is starting and the average Russian knows it. Anti-american propaganda is broadcast in Moscow, and its counterpart in New York.

NGOs and journalists report on Sochi as if they were being paid to review a motel - "my pillows weren't fluffed" "I have no water at all to clean my shoes in the sink" etc etc.

This angers Russians. They feel attacked. Cornered in their own country. Google proudly paints them as gay-haters.

Basic human behaviours are tribal and that is exactly what happens to young impressionable men in Russia. They target the apparent source of their misery. Mob mentality kicks in.

The solution is to let the Russian gays fight for their own rights, support them financially, use international power to deter legislation against them, and NOT write about hem in the news. To not use them as martyrs. We can't enforce western thought upon the world. What is right will eventually come through.

I dont think its using them as martyrs tbh Danilo, theres no need to get over complicated. Its a case of this should not be happening. Its basic human rights

They shouldn't be kicked in the head, beat up, killed, ridiculed, accused of being ****philes for Gods sake for being gay
