A Geordie developer bought the old National cinema ruined front and site (behind), together with the Swann Inn (closed up) next to it. They have offered to sell it at the same price at which they bought it. Alan Canvess (ex-Chair of Hull CAMRA) is heading the charitable body which aims to raise the cash to do so and turn it into a national memorial to the civilian dead, using the pub and (new) micro-brewery to fund the upkeep. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Closed_cinemas_in_Kingston_upon_Hull#The_National_Picture_Theatre

Same here, but I was there a bit before you!!! I didn't realise the place had produced such important and talented people. One learns something every day!!
while we are in old Hull mode and the right people to ask are probably readin , does anyone have any info / pics of 7 dagger lane ? I was reading about the proposed A63 improvements and i came upon this section in the document about the building , such a shame to read about but I've no idea how it looked before its "refurbishment" *see bold text below Historic Buildings 7.4.5. The study area contains four High value assets. These are the Old Grammar School (Listed Grade II*), Holy Trinity Church (Grade I), no. 7 Dagger Lane (Grade II*) and King William III’s statue (Grade I). Of these, no. 7 Dagger Lane (Minerva Lodge) is probably the least recognised and appreciated by the general public, as the external elevations of this meeting house were rebuilt in 1978 and only a commemorative stone now records the fact that the building originates to the late 17th century; it is the interior that retains much of the original arrangements and Masonic devices. The other three High value assets are all very prominent and highly visible structures located in high use pedestrian areas where they can be appreciated. However, the setting of King William III’s equine statue does leave room for improvement and enhancement. Also a very interesting point of view on our King Billy statue I reckon our City has the most Mobile Statues Link to the plans - http://infrastructure.planningporta...et Improvements Hull_ES Scoping Report_v1.pdf
why would the ghosts be in store rooms when it gets dark??, if the was anything there they would walk freely around day or night around the prospect centre

"Towns like Hull enjoyed an extraordinary degree of self-determination, they did not take their cue from London, they considered themselves to be de facto city states, mercantile principalities" Great defining quote.. excellent programme..
That first second thirty seconds when he (they) say "Our name is Jonathan Meades" cracks me up. **** knows what the producer said when Meadesy said he wanted 5 superimposed separate takes of the same intro ramble
