Another disappointment for Wiggo only taking 11 seconds off Nibali in his speciality, puncture didn't help but he's not at his best. Great ride by Dowsett, another British winner. Looks like Nibali will be a hot favourite now with the mountain stages still to come...

Wiggins didn't look at all comfortable on the first bike pre puncture and that showed with him 52 seconds down at the half way mark. His second half must have been amazing to pull back 42 seconds

For me he's still a one trick pony and I think nibali and Evans will crucify him in the mountains this week

I guess Chris Froome will be having a smile tonight...

Very tough stage today and the conditions were atrocious. Wiggins was being really pulled apart by Nibali and I think its clear without Froome to get him up the mountains he's really struggling. Cannot see him turning this around if the conditions stay as wet as they have been

I read Sky had put a couple of Colombians in specifically to get Wiggo through the mountains, must have used the same scouts as QPR!...<laugh>

TBH I thought the Columbians served him well today and last Friday. Wiggins just can't descend at all - his confidence is shot and he's clearly off form despite him saying he's in top condition

The Giro's climbs, roads and weather are very different from those of the Tour. The former has the cold, rain and occasionally the snow as the enemy and the other the heat.

No excuse for the descending powers of Wiggins though, if he was really scared he could have stopped for a few seconds and lowered the tyre pressures slightly as did others. However I can still see him winning this which wouldn't be a good result for cycling in any way. Evans and Nibali couldn't or wouldn't put the hammer down today when needed, perhaps they are waiting for Tuesday, we will see...
