Why they think that? Why would I care for their reasoning, there is no rational and justifiable reason for thinking that killing hundreds of children needlessly and recklessly is a proportionate reaction to Hamas and other militia groups

If you don't understand their motivations then why should they take notice of what they might consider your mindless support for Hamas? If a state is taking action that, on face value, goes beyond what 'the world' calls acceptable then there has to be a reason why. So you believe their reasons are just enough such that the ends justify the means? Their reasoning is that Hamas needs to be eradicated because they are a threat to the Jewish state of Israel, if a few hundred kids get blown up in the process then that's just collateral damage, and the future survival of Israel comes first. It's to be expected, the US have the same mentality when it comes to the middle east and their drone program, so I suppose their little child will grow up thinking that is OK. Never mind the fact that Israel is defended to the hilt already, only a fraction of Hamas' rockets actually get through their defences and that Hamas is an unelected militant group that does not represent all Palestinians. Israel is a far wealthier and better-equipped country in every sense than the Palestinians and frankly my outrage is that I expected them to be the bigger person in this conflict and step up, not just take the easy american-style option of pummeling the opposition into submission. It's grotesque what they are doing and will solve nothing, and you know that.
