The Smiths weren't a punk bank, they were a bit on their own at the time, but are generally lumped together as 'Alternative Rock', along with the likes of Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nirvana, Radiohead etc.

Melvin Bragg knows **** all . I once grew my hair in what I thought was a David Beckham / Jamie Redknapp style . Not too long but sort of collar length. This was in attempt to look like said pin ups . I wasn't overly impressed when , in one night , I was likened to Melvin Bragg and then to cap it off Ken Barlow . Got the shears out the very next day and never went down the long haired road again .
The Damned, Siouxsie and The Cure were all just considered punk bands, then some punks decided to get a bit gloomy and they joined Bauhaus and Joy Division as a bit of a side movement.

What is it with you and bromances? You've had one too many for my liking , you're soiled goods . What we have is purely platonic .
I am young and nubile. Take me where I stand, and thrust your virile member hard and fast into my anus.
Can't believe I didn't think to post this earlier, this thread is no longer off-topic
Great but surely not a punk band . I also liked the post punk American alternative bands . The Pixies , Sonic Youth and Mudhoney to name a few . Also liked My Bloody Valentine and The Wedding Present . Not strictly punk but in my opinion the musicians were definitely from the same mold. Edgy and alternative .
They were very much considered a punk band at the time, in the late 70's I loved The Cure and I didn't see them as being any different to The Clash, Siouxsie, The Damned, The Undertones, The Pistols, SLF, or anyone else I was listing to. U2 are another band that I suspect many wouldn't think of as being a punk band nowadays.
The stuff I relate to is nothing like punk . Even stuff as far back as Killing an Arab ( calm down Erik) I wouldn't call punk . The late eighties stuff on Kiss me kiss me kiss me is melodic and in places very easy on the ear . Hardly Holiday in Cambodia !
