Anyone remember this, it was a flexi-disc that came free with an issue of Sniffin' Glue magazine? Or maybe I should ask if anyone remembers what a flexi-disk is?
Hey No.1 - do you remember Hull punks - Mountbatten's Bits and Pieces? and (Roland Gift's 1st) Blue Kitchen?
I do indeed, I'm still mates with Ted who played bass in Lord Mountbatten's Bits and Pieces, but I lost touch with front man Chris French after he got banged up for grave robbing down Spring Bank(I think he went to New Zealand when he was released).
Was Ted curly blond-haired guy, with specs? Always looked mean and surly, but I got talking to him at a party once, and he was OK.
More mohawk than curly hair and he's got no hair at all now, though he does have a tendency to look a bit pissed off
Here's a band most won't have heard of, but have a listen and see if you can recognise who's on vocals.
This is not real punk, but I think it's really hilarious. Of particular note are a very Stiv Bators-esque Martin Short on vocals (if you can call them "vocals") and John Candy actually playing the drums (the link does not embed, but it takes you to YouTube)... Correct, now see if you can get one without a picture(it's a hard one), who was the lead singer in Riff Raff? (no cheating)
OLM: Riff Raff's lead singer, of course, was the Bard of Barking, Stephen William (aka Billy) Bragg. No need for me to look that one up.
I can't open these links as I'm on my I phone . I didn't get punk , didn't get it at all . It was bit before my time to be fair though. I was born in '72 so was a wee nipper when it all kicked off . I did try to get into the Dead Kennedys but it went way over my head although I did like the stuff Jello Biafra did with DOA later in his career . Do the Smiths count as punk ? I wouldn't have said so but that's how they were described on the South Bank show when they featured on there . Best band ever to grace these shores , or any shores for that matter .
