Is he the guy that won championship in the Mercedes with Coulthard as teammate? Edit: nope, I'm thinking of Mika Häkkinen. couldn't stand him
I pulled a Rosberg and stumbled over the line in second. If only I'd had the foresight to get Ricciardo in my team. *shakes fist*
****ing yes Jenson. Go on lad. Keeps his seat at McLaren for 2015/16 season. ****ing yes mate let's ****ing have it
Excellent news! Well in Jenson. They have been poor with the time making the decision, but the right one has been made. McLaren should have a good car in the next year or so too.
Williams are the first of the teams to break cover with their new car for the 2015 season which they have unveiled today. More cars will follow in the next month as all the teams reveal their chargers for the upcoming season, most of which will feature a redesigned nose section in accordance with new design regulations. There is much speculation about the livery of the new McLaren and the new Mercedes cars as McLaren switch to Honda engines making the silver paint-job they have had in recent years defunct, as this is traditionally the colour of the 'silver arrows', Mercedes' built/powered cars. McLaren have been predicted to switch to their historic white/orange/red livery with Mercedes becoming more silver in their place. Elsewhere, all eyes will be on the new Red Bull design, Adrian Newey's last for the team as lead designer, before he shifts his focus away from F1 and takes on more of an advisory role with the team. Newey is the most successful car designer in F1 history so will surely want to leave on a high and produce a fast, winning car. Ferrari will also be hoping to turn around their ailing fortunes as Sebastian Vettel steps into his first Maranello built car hoping to reverse several seasons of underachievement by the team. In other news Marussia, the team of injured driver Jules Bianchi and who were on the verge of collapse with their cars up for sale, look to have put together a financial rescue deal that will allow them to race this coming season. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/formula1/30915475
yes.. the nose last year were stupid. http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/formula1/30915475 this year they still have that pointless stubby ending on them... which means the regulation is pointless. newey cannot make a car that's got an engine that's no good into a winner. It will be most interesting to see what the renault enginer does this year.
I've christened it the jigsaw nose... because it looks like a piece of one with the silly notch at the end
You get used to it if you watch regularly and these cars are actually quicker than the old V8s now. A lot of the lack of noise is down to the lower rpm of the V6 engines, that whine you used to get was when the old engines were running at 18/19000 rpm, the new ones run at about 12,000 rpm with an upper limit of 15,000 rpm. In terms of grunt / bhp the new V6 turbos with ERS produce 600 bhp engine only and 160 bhp from the ERS system. The old V8s produced 760 bhp total (with KERS). But the new engines provide much more torque and they can sustain that for longer race distances at higher speeds and rpms. The fuel is also delivered to the new engines through Direct Injection now so the fuel burns more efficiently in the engine cylinder and allows for greater power. But thank the lord they got rid of that ridiculous double points malarkey.
The noise was great though, when you heard the V8 it made you all excited about watching them. Didn't know they'd scrapped the double points, just as well really as that was a ridiculous idea.
Pain in the arse/ears though if you ever went to a race and left your earplugs at the hotel and had to go and find some of the ****ty free foam ones they give out near the stands.
I was talking about the noise from my experience of being at Silverstone. I loved it and never entertained the idea of having ear plugs.
Silverstone's not too hard on the ears because it's a very open track due to it being built on an old airfield, so the sound can escape. At the Turkish race they had for a couple of seasons was a nightmare because the sound had nowhere to go due to the track being like an amphitheatre and closed in.
double points was some sort of scheme to make sure the last race in a particular place would decide the race. i';m sure someone got a lot of money to allow it. utterly pointless rule ......... re engine noise: best get used to it cos i can see fully electric cars within 10 years. for a 2 hour run actually a fully electric drive train with power all the way through is an ideal and the thing is you save an awful lot on the drive train etc. Its inevitable for a car meant to run for 2 hours only and do 200km to end up fully electric.
You've not seen Formula E then?? Think there'll always be petrol engines in F1, as long as there's petrol.
