I'm less than 50% English! My Mum's half of the family I can trace to various Eastern European countries... I'm descended from a bunch of habitual immigrants... never staying in a country for more than a generation. My Dad's side is mostly English- although supposedly has some German and Roma-Gypsy in it. So overall slightly less than 50% English...
There's a bit of a ruckus in the states in cali and or Texas at the moment with the locals and immigrants isn't there? Immigrants and descendents of immigrants running amok over more immigrants.
Arizona is the worst!!! They have some pretty bad immigration laws... and I won't go to Alabama under any circumstance anymore out of protest! (not that I've been very often). Alabama has laws that state that if the police have "reason to believe" you "might be" an immigrant, they have the right to arrest you if you don't have proof of legal status on you. Pretty much like a watered down version of the "Dompas" laws in South Africa that blacks had to carry around with them. The certificate of naturalization is a large sheet of paper that is not supposed to be folded. (if I recall correct, mine says on it, do not fold... or at least we were told not to fold it at the swearing in ceremony). So- no immigrant is going to be carrying around their certificate of naturalization on them. I put mine in the safe when I got it- and haven't taken it out since. Having an English accent- police could arrest me in Alabama- simply because my accent would give the Alabama cause to believe I was an immigrant. Then I would have to wait for my wife to drive 8 hours or so (depending where in Alabama) with my naturalization certificate so that I could be released. Technically... ... although realistically the law is to target Mexican immigrants, not English immigrants. There was a story of a German executive for the Mercedes plant there getting arrested though for not having his green card on him.
