    Alcomahol:

Sambuca. Delish, will write you off AND you can set it on fire. What more does a man need?

    Soft Drinks:

GOOD shout on Fentiman's but I've never had that Dandelion and Burdock stuff. The curiosity cola and victorian lemonade are awesome though.

This is my favourite and like every soft drink is best served ice cold from a can!

used to love sarsaparilla from the herbal shop in gateshead

my dad used to buy the powdery stuff from there and make our own at home. been trying to find it recently and no shops in newcastle have it. found a cordial at tesco but it's more like fruitjuice than sarsaparilla and a shop in eldon gardens had a version that tasted too liquoricey

    any ideas?

Bloody lovely! It's quite fruity, with just the smallest ever bourbon notes hidden (my gf hates bourbon but loves the sour mash) & sweet (but not too sweet that you can only drink a couple like I find with alcopops or Kopparberg!).

Also like to add for coffee lovers, if you ever come to Leeds, the best place has to be Opposite Cafe (my friend from London turned me onto it who makes a point of stopping there whenever he ventures up north) : http://www.oppositecafe.co.uk/ & Laynes Espresso (which is some of the people who used to work at Opposite) : http://www.laynesespresso.co.uk/ which also does amazing coffee.
So much nicer than the usual fare served by Starbucks, Costa & so on.

Durham Brewery is awesome, some friends of my parents' son works there. Really nice beers and their glasses are very cool.

I used to love it when I was in 6th form, but can barely drink a full one nowadays. They're far too sweet!

Is that the place opposite the university campus? It's not too bad in there as I recall, just absolutely crammed with students almost all the time of course!

There's the one opposite the uni (hence the name), but it does get rammed or they have a little booth in the posh Victorian Quarter arcade on the main high street (where all the posh Vivienne Westwood, Luis Vuitton etc. shops are) which generally only gets busy during lunchtime hours and I find it a much better setting!
