I'm writing these down before I change my mind again...

The Band - The night they drove old Dixie down
    Al Wilson - The snake
Otis Redding - These arms of mine
    The Verve - Bittersweet symphony
Flying Burrito Brothers - Dark end of the street
Curtis Mayfield - People get ready
    Wilco - Jesus etc
    Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah

I even managed to change my mind whilst typing that out...

As you say, the difficulty comes with trying to differentiate between tracks that are meaningful to you in some way and those which are just favourites. As I said earlier, 4 or 5 of mine would be fixtures and the rest could change from day to day.

I was going to include the book option, but found it more difficult than the music.

    1. Lucky - Radiohead
    2. Echoes - Pink Floyd
    3. Castles Made of Sand - Jimi Hendrix
    4. Future Words - The Hickey Underground
    5. Redshift - Darwin Deez
    6. No I in Threesome - Interpol
    7. Feeling Gravity's Pull - REM
    8. Sometimes in the Fall - Phoenix

Trying to mix all-time favourites with diverse songs (none of which I get tired of listening to).

...and Echoes just to get value for money (great song anyway). ;)

I was thinking of putting Echoes in too! Have seen Aussie Floyd perform this, it's immense

Here goes my list for today, but have really struggled with either to go classic, or newer tunes?

    Mansun - Wide Open Space
    Charlatans - Beautiful Friend
Stone Roses - I Am The Resurrection
Arctic Monkeys - A Certain Romance
The Beatles - A Day In The Life
Pink Floyd - Shine On You Crazy Diamond
    The XX - Shelter
    Primal Scream - Come Together

The anti Nowhere league! You had that album too! Can't see much crossover on here with my list (apart from Curtis), but I enjoyed making it

Baby please don’t go – Rose Mitchell
Don’t worry, if there’s a hell below, we’re all gonna go Curtis Mayfield
Elvis Presley Blues – Gillian Welch
10 AM automatic - Black keys
Sweet little mystery – John Martyn
    Can’t cheat karma – Zounds
I often dream of trains – Robyn Hitchcock
I cram to understand U – MC Lyte
