You'd have to ingest about 60mg of pure nicotine to cause yourself a major problem.

An average cigarette smoker ends up inhaling about 1mg of the drug per cig.

Vape 'smoke' is primarily water vapour and unless you were crammed in a lift with half a dozen vapers I reckon you're safe from getting even a whiff of one as a passive vaper <laugh>

Venison is a fine meat, that needs nothing more than it's arse wiping and sticking on your plate.

    It's ruined by over cooking.

Nicotine - I refer you to the NHS Quit Smoking information packs and the information that they give upon the actual effects of nicotine

what i found was nicotine on its own can constrict blood vessels and increase blood pressure and perhaps restrict insulin.

so yeah... long term research into vapours is needed... heart attack territory here.

    the nhs pack says

    After 5 years
Risk of heart attacks falls to about half compared with a person who is still smoking.
    After 10 years
Risk of lung cancer falls to half that of a smoker. Risk of heart attack falls to the same as someone who has never smoked.

so if you have a group who've quit, one whos not and one who is sky.... after 10 years heart problems should perhaps be lower with those who quit.

this is something i think is needing quick research

All I know about nicotine poisoning I know from Columbo where a murderer put concentrated nicotine in his victim's cigarette. A couple of puffs, heart attack, dead. Great episode, very informative.

In case you're wondering, Columbo solves the case by noticing the replaced butts weren't stained hence hadn't been the ones smoked. Legend

There's also a Poirot where the killer uses nicotine as a poison. <ok>

I will check it out, but will only watch first and last 20mins of Poirot out of principle. The principle being that the hour and a half in the middle of any Poirot episode is unnecessary.

By that measure, you only need to watch the first five minutes of Columbo...

I actually meant book; don't know if it's been done on TV yet.

    EDIT: It has: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three_Act_Tragedy

    P.S. I do like columbo <ok>

    from the NicotineHarmReduction.org (http://www.tobaccoharmreduction.org/faq/nicotine.htm)

The effects of nicotine itself are similar to that other popular drug, caffeine. See our (nicotine reading list.) There is no evidence that nicotine causes any substantial risk for cancer, and the research shows that the risk for cardiovascular disease is minimal. The confusion about nicotine comes from anti-smoking activists talking about nicotine and smoking as if they were the same. While it is true that people smoke mostly because of nicotine; nicotine users die mostly because of the smoke.

Neither nicotine nor coffee are completely benign (in particular, both cause a short-term increase in your blood pressure and pulse rate when you use them, which could affect your health). A lot of evidence shows that coffee drinking causes very little health risk. Studying nicotine is a bit harder, because most nicotine users smoke, and the smoking is quite bad for you. But there is some good evidence: If nicotine were very bad for you then smokeless tobacco, which provides nicotine, would be very bad for you. As we've shown elsewhere, that is not the case.

Though nicotine is relatively safe for most individuals, it may have a negative effect on fetal development and as such should be avoided during pregnancy.

Dave that's not exactly an unbiased site either

All I can say if I know of a woman who was supposedly on the next thing to a heart attack due to drinking coke non stop but.... Well let's just say if I could separate the coca cola from all the other issues she had

Anyway that piece is supposition and comparing without evidence two different things

This is a case where those who have to clean up the potential mess need to do the research not those with vested interest in either way

Just want to say that one either myth or fact is that if you injected the amount of nicotine that one cigarette contains you would die

    Anyone hear that?

Anyway I believe it is a poison that is delivered very in effectively in the methods used
