I've always loved Blue Bell in the Old Town, with those little cubby-hole rooms. Also, I can never go in without getting a feel for what it must've been like upstairs in the days of the legendary Folk Union One Club. A few years before my time; would've loved to have been around.
Some real nice looking pubs there. This is the only bar we got and you got to park inside a freaking barn to go in. It also gets raided all the time by the police.
A bit O/T but, just realised the picture/video function has vanished from this site... can you only post pics by hosting them on another site now?
I used to go to Folk Union One in the Sixties, Pol. Saw Bert Jansch there, twice; and the Watersons many times... The Blue Bell was the last time i saw Ray Harvey (about 5/6 years ago...). He was in the back room with a bunch of old-timers and came out (saw me through the see-through bar) and asked me to stay and drink with him. I - unfortunately (or fortunately?) had a time-table, as I was just a-visiting.....
Just changed browser... Not606 doesn't seem to be working correctly in Chrome, as it appears fine in Explorer. None of the icons above the area to type are appearing and when I signed out, when I went to sign back in again, my password didn't appear censored as I typed, as it normally does.
Well, not sure why it is then, but IE is working perfectly, but the site isn't in Chrome (for me anyway).
Guys is oasis still there? It's where I pulled the wife that's all. My favourite pub memory was walking into the Mainbrace as a teenager and seeing Paul Heaton writing lyrics in a corner. That was a sublime moment.
some great pubs on that list Polar Bear was my local many years ago after 5 a-side I second the nomination for George on Ginger , since the new Landlords taken over - he is doing some good things in there to sharpen up the old place . Green Bricks has served me well for a few gigs along with Corn exchange - though overall my favorite places are Wm Hawkes , Lion and Key , Black Boy , Blue Bell and Ye olde White Harte Worst place ive been recently is definately Kings Head - Beverley urrrgh ! What have they done to that place ?
Regularly visit all those pubs you mention. I live on Marina, my girlfriend lives on Scale Lane, so those are our bread 'n' butter.
i used to almost live there in the early 90s not been in it since and was shocked by everything about it - it was a muscle ripped sweat fest - i felt i needed to rush into the nearest garden and sniff some knickers .
