First thing I’d say is it’s bloody huge, so getting from one area to another might need planning.
How long are you there for?
Ended up in a hidden nightclub in the hipster part of the Turkish Quarter with @askewshair once…certainly left field but not sure I’d go so far as to recommend it & there’s loads of great places tbh.
Most seemed to only kick off after midnight mind you.
Also gambled with a load of Turks in the back room of a kebab shop playing a game I’d never seen before , whilst very pissed & after sobering up, a little, shot automatic assaults weapons in a bunker too…:bandit:

Cheers BTB
Done a fair bit of research so not going in blind. Glad you had sobered up before shooting automatic assault weapons. You and Askew sound a blast.

May not be very helpful, although there’s a little part at the end about newer similar developments, but my favourite left field place I’ve been to a couple of times in Berlin was Kunthaus {quieten down at the back!} Tacheles which was an art squat with galleries and bars in it. Great place but sadly everyone was evicted* a long time ago so it’ll be apartments now

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kunsthaus_Tacheles

*perhaps given the number of evictions from there the E2/3 area could be renamed the Kunthaus?

Use the S Bahn to get around the city - if you are into history Sachsenhausen concentration camp is a 30 min drive north of Berlin but warning its a very sobering experience.
Make sure you validate your tickets on the train
Completely failed to understand the system when went with Askew and the ladies so we got the train everywhere accidentally for free.
When back there on stag night actually bought a ticket for a few days with start and finish times so assumed was ok, but got stopped and fined because even though it had dates on we hadn’t validated the start use…or something

Yeah thought about that but going more for the modern Berlin pre War. Obviously will pick up WW2 topics on the way. Looking for a bit of former 1930,s Jazz scene as well.

Bit like in France then. Bit of an odd one but it’s their way. Got a train to Antibes in the South last year. Coming back we had return for the wrong day. Paid again. Live and learn.

Check point Charlie.
The bridge from that Tom Hank's movie.

The Checkpoint Charlie Museum is bonkers.

Other museum curators must have nightmares just thinking about how it is organised.

Got some stuff from the Cold War or about the Wall or, well, about anything really?

Shove it in, paying no regard to chronology, narrative or common sense and then encourage people to wander around aimlessly.

It's really interesting though and well worth a visit.

You must look dodgy, we didn't validate our tickets, but the conductor just looked at our passports, made a note, and let us off. :emoticon-0100-smile
