I thought there were only gonna be two hobbit movies, but there's a 3rd been announced! 3 new LOTR movies!!!

Apparently, the first two are going to be based on the book, the 3rd is going to be previously unreleased work by JJR Tolkien that will be finished by his son, Peter Jackson and others.

    Get in!!!

    I love the originals.

I wasn't. Saw that trailer. Am now. Loved LOTR, hoping this will be just as good. Struggle to see how they'll stretch it to 3 movies though, the book was really short I thought.

The first two are gonna be the story from the book. The 3rd is like an unwritten story, containing material written from Tolkien. He wrote some things that took place after the Hobbit and before LOTR, that never got released.

Should be interesting. Expect to see a book release before the third film though imo.

Is the trailer for both of the first two movies? Because it shows Bilbo with the ring and that doesn't happen until the latter part of the book.. :undecided:

Considering the rehashed ******************************** hollywood is pumping out at maximum retail right now, this is possibly the only film other than Batman I'm bothered about seeing. Good job Tolkein had written ****loads of craziness all over those beer-mats, because the writers in America are plumb out of ideas!

I thought Christopher Tolkien was totally against the 3rd movie, he had a few unkind words about the LOTR movies if i remember correctly.

And then someone turned up with lots and lots of cash I'm presuming...

And then he felt he was quite ready for another adventure...

It's about time Freeman was acknowledged globally, he's one of the better young(ish) English actors.

I have no intentions of watching anything with that absolute embarrassment Elijah Wood in it, so I might consider these movies - He's not in them right?

I dont think hes that starved of cash.. and he has been pretty protective of his fathers legacy in the past, but you are probably right. The Hobbit is a fairly simple book in essence so Im not sure how it will stretch to three movies.

Thats not exactly how the movies are happening. Its not two movies from The Hobbit and then one from 'unreleased' material.

The second movie is no longer called There And Back Again, because its simply just the middle part of The Hobbit story. They dont have a name for it yet, but id expect the third one to now be called that.

The only reason for it now spilling into more movies and this whole 'unreleased' stuff youre tlaking about, is purely the amount of things that are just mentioned in passing throughout the book. It seems theyre basically going to be stuffed out and put into the movie in some form. Parts with the 'necromancer' and the battle of Dol Guldur, etc... Not too mention hwo many battles are happening simultaneously.

Im still very surprised theyre putting it into three movies, but i suppose the end of the second one would be way too overcrowded if they didnt. Im not going to complain anyway...

They'll definitely not do The Silmarillion though >_<

The casting for Bilbo was shocking. A pity, because I love everything Tolkien, and have adored the Hobbit since early childhood.

Cheers Tash. Can't wait for these. Loved the book when I was a kid and loved what Jackson did with LOTR films. <ok>

For those that are wondering "wtf" about 3 movies, the first two movies will be about the book. The 3rd movie will be set after The Hobbit and before the Lord of the Rings. It's like another adventure, based on some material written by JRR Tolkien that was never finished or released, and It will be finished by Christopher Tolkien, Peter Jackson and a few others.
