The fire is now basically 100% contained which means it will just burn itself out over the next couple days. They held it to 98,000 acres.
That does sound like good news. Must be difficult with those types of threats surrounding your homestead. Are you very far from the earthquake zone where you are ? Glad you came through these two recent episodes somewhat unscathed. Keep on truckin' ellewoods.
With the massive droughts over the entire west basically half the country is in some sort of threat for forest, or wild fires. In general you dont worry to much about it except when it is right next to you. You need fire insurance of course, and most people try to keep brush etc back from their houses. We feel earthquakes here but being in the foothills nothing really happens except some books fall over on the bookshelves. I guess its something to do with the rock that makes up the Sierras. In order for us to have any real damage here an earthquake would have to be so large that SF and the entire bay area would have to basically be destroyed. The one in 1989 that hit SF was a 6.9 the 1906 was a 7.9 There wasn't any real damage here even in the 1906 one from what I have read. I would think that a quake would have to be in the mid 8's at least before anything major happened where I am. I should say that the people I know who live in SF do believe a major quake is coming. They believe that the best thing is to have lots of little quakes that they believe release the pressure building up. Apparently there have been no real quakes since 1989 and they all think that means a major quake is coming.
