That magnificent pillared building was just a chapel (Congregational). No wonder people believed in a god in such numbers in the past.

I'm guessing the building with the Worthingtons sign is what is now McDonalds or Natwest (depending on which way the pic is facing).
You've got me there - I don't know if we're looking down Jameson Street, to George Street; or if the view is looking up King Edward Street towards Bev. Road.

The building on the left (2nd pic) is on the corner of Jameson Street. It used to be Dolcis (or Manfields) shoe shop and faced diagonally across from Fletchers (with the little fountain).
