That's better than the one Nines has come up with. When this thread is overrun by offensive trolls it'll be yer actual Uber wot gets the blame!

I think you're trying to wind me up there Uber!

I was the one who said Braveheart and Zulu were both Hollywood Movies, designed for the masses (namely Scotch and English) to overdose themselves with. You were the one saying one was fictionalized whereas the other wasn't. Have you stopped to consider that, considering "Zulu" included two forces, why the film was entirely devoted to the narrative of just one of those sides? I can't remember the Africans talking to one another in the film, and having particular characters and relationships detailed like the British had. A bit like the Sweaty flick focused entirely on the Scottish side of things.

I do despair at times when reading some of the stuff I've just read above. It is naivety bordering on outright mental deficiency. And its the same bloke that keeps coming out with the same atrocious statements time and time again. <steam>

I'll say no more as I'll just get myself into trouble.

    That would be nice.
Your continued efforts to hijack this excellent thread are quite amusing though.

Moi? Nah, Trav, you can do that all by yourself... <whistle>

I think you're still missing the point with this, though. If you were fair, you'd admit that the reason Zulu was brought up in the first place was entirely because it was mentioned that movie 'licence' isn't the sole domain of the Americans, and that the Brits have a bit of form here too. So you're kinda pushing at an open door.

Nobody denies that the movie is partisan and glorifies British spunk against foreign opposition. In our investigations we have established that the Zulus honouring the Brits for their pluck was entirely fictitious - they buggered off because reinforcements were on their way - and that the reality was that the Brits executed a number of the captured or wounded Zulus found on the battlefield. Not exactly cricket, eh?

I challenge your assertion that there wasn't any Zulu dialogue in the movie. Having watched it again in its entirety this afternoon, I noted down one particular exchange which I put through Google Translate. Here it is:

First Zulu: M'waaaaah Oooh (translation: I'm going to run at that bayonet over there)
    Second Zulu: Ooooh (me too)
First Zulu; Aieeeee (ow, that hurt, I'm done for)
Second Zulu: Aarrgh (that smarts, I've bought the farm)

[If there are any mental deficiencies on display on this thread, after that last bit above, I'm sure you'll agree that they lie with me!]

    (Very good Uber, like it!)

I must admit, I was overly hasty there to say the least. I've since gone back and read the last couple of pages properly (rather than seeing one sentence and seeing red!) and to be fair, its a fairly reasonable debate. Particularly, in fact, from the bloke wot normally winds me up! He had a post towards the bottom of the page that I'd entirely missed in my eagerness to vent my misplaced fury. Luckily for me I never named the poster so I don't now have to cough up a humiliating apology. See, I'm learning in my old age .

Hey Uber, last sentence of my first post on this thread. Told you it was gonna be a good 'un.

Time for a new subject...I've got one where we will do well to maintain the civilized debate.

Europe. The EU, concept, theory and practice. For me -concept I'm fine with, theory we start to go wobbly, practice, oh dear.

    Irish perspective especially welcome.

Let's avoid the Euro, its a red herring.

    And you were correct.

I am always happy to help you in anyway that I can, Trav. Please let me know when I can next be of assistance.

You could easily substitute the words "The EU" with "Communism" in that sentence.

Expand Trav - in the sense of having a debating topic I get it, but are you equating the EU with communism?

Swords, you have probably upset another nation now. Isn't scotch a drink and there is a nation of Scots? Keep up the good work.
