Decent BP win for the Ospreys last night over the Dragons. The attendance was 7,442 Nasty looking injury to Keelan Giles - hope it's not as bad as it looked.
I thought the Ospreys were lost and clueless and had no game plane, attacking ideas etc. Dragons would have won with a stronger bench imo. Their heart, fight and passion for their jersey was the complete opposite to what the Ospreys players showed.
The Dragons defence was awesome - despite that they shipped 4 tries - they certainly played for the jersey. That said, I never felt that we'd lose. Not our best performance, we played better against Clermont and Saracens, but a win was the required result and the boys delivered.
It was must win against the Dragons. Not only that, in the changing room it had to be a bonus point win, anything else would have been considered a poor victory as the team were looking to get back on track. They were determined not to lose face against the Dragons and this became manifest in the way we set about our business and we concentrated more on recycling possession and ball retention than attacking style and creativity. We had a game plan which equated to our necessity to win which was to keep the ball and batter their defense until it broke, nothing fancy. The players knew they've been playing poorly and previous performances hadn't given them the confidence they need to play sexy rugby. Before they could do that they would have to turn the heavy corner of improvement and they knew they could out muscle the Dragons so that's what they did with a heads down, hit-up and grind them down performance that would ensure the win. They played ugly because they had to in order to win the game. If we continue to get results in coming games then our confidence will return and we can start to play sexy rugby again, but we need to string a few results together first.
Tandy is hopeless when it comes to cup games.... I think he will be outed at the end of the season...
European has been dreadful and that is where the big money is. only against the scarlets do we get big gates and we lost both games....I cant see him here next season...
The money is largely the same whether you are in the Champions Cup or the Challenge Cup - gate money may be better in the former. The "big" money comes from TV and the WRU. Read the Ospreys accounts
Money is not the issue though. This season has been a wash out after just a few games. Far to many very poor games and loses for Tandy to be kept on imo. I hear this all the time...
Wonder if there will be any re-consideration following last night's abject Ospreys performance against Edinburgh?
