In the end that cost us the game againt the spuds, so if he can iron that out of his game then he could be between the sticks for a long time.
To be honest while that was a **** up from him, sometimes you need other players to bail you out, and as Wenger said it was a cheap goal, someone should have been on Kane to not allow him to make that shot, why wasn't one of our defenders pouncing or quick to react to the second ball as Kane was?
You can often say that though. We should have had someone keeping an eye on Ozil for your goal, and Dier should have stepped up so there was no doubt he was offside.
Still the point remains, was a cheap goal to give away, you were making chances, but still before the goal, you didn't really create a very clear cut HOLY **** chance, then we gave that dumb goal away.
Hmm now that I've had a few games to assess him I'm not convinced at all TBH. I think we are better off with Sczezney. Ospina lacks height, much like Fabianski is a very good shotstopper but that's about it. His tendency to palm the ball back out into the penalty area is a big concern.
He's very quick though and gets down to low shots faster than Sczezney. I do agree about the way he directs the ball. Is that something that can be trained out of people? Honestly don't know as I'm no goal keeping expert but it seems to me if you are able to get in the way of the ball, which he is, surely it's a small step to aim it in another direction. I don't want to get down on him yet as there are elements to his game that I'd happily take of Chezzers but, as people have mentioned, there are a couple of concerns. Purely hypothetical one...if I'm right in thinking Cech is out of contract at the end of the season, would anyone make a cheeky approach? I would.
It could be the confidence he has to catch the ball without fumbling/missing it, or his body position to enable a clean catch - not sure as I haven't really looked into it, or how he positions himself. Personally I think Szczesny has had some over the top criticism and is a very good keeper, his problem is consistency and distribution, though his communication isn't as great as it could be. Ospina is again a very good keeper (or at least looked it in the WC and the games he's had for us), but he obviously has his flaws, and it was a bit concerning that in the last 2 games he didn't look as composed coming for crosses as in the last 4 where it was one of his strengths. I'm sure they'll both provide good competition to each other though. I can't see Wenger getting rid of either of our 2 very good keepers to make room for another or signing another one on top - especially Cech who has maybe 2 seasons max left at the top of his game. (maybe even less though). It's a shame as I've always liked Cech, and would love him at the club, but I think there's no chance of it happening
