Weale? Or do you mean paid money for?

Grandison was free but I'd imagine there'll be a hefty sell-on percentage, as with Collins, so we effectively paid for those two. Obviously we paid for Gornell last summer - but you did say good (I still think he's a decent player, I'm in an incredibly small minority though!). Wright we paid for around the same time as Wroe, so, yeah. Depending on how you can interpret it, it could be Weale, Gornell, Grandison or Wroe. All depends on what you class as good, and what you class as buying!

we don't have to actually buy players there is talent out there, we need just to pay their wages, lets get at least one player in that GT doesn't know personnely from working with him in the past, but one that's actually been scouted!!

Glad that sparked a little discussion!

You missed my point Tinned Hats....we clearly haven't spent much, we clearly havent produced many of our own first teamers AND clearly wages are an issue! Put all of those together and we have a fiscally prudent club that will naturally 'struggle' unless we find our own talent by development or scouting! These last two have always been what I regard as the functions of a good football club AT ANY LEVEL, from Premiership to pub team! I think others have agreed that we need to be working in all areas to go from being fiscally sound to vibrant and solvent!

do the shrews have a scouting system or are they relying on men in uniforms on motor cycle combinations, saluting motorists. i think we should be told!

now this may come as a suprise to tinned hats as much as to others. aj has also not seen a brass farthing either. the money was made available last summer to gt who chose not to use it except for wages for a multitude of iffy loan players. so the money is back in the chairmans wallet but hopefully double the amount should be available in january to graham if 1, he is still here and 2, he agrees to spend it.

my view is we need to sell/loan/dump about 8 of the squad, get gornell back and spend up to 400k on 2/3 quality players. any more loans and the shrews may well be known as the loan sharks. er floreat salopia.!

well AJ i thought you were more prudent than that, if we are going to spend 400k, lets do it on wages and bringing good lower league players into the club..this is how Chester does it..."hey mate you look a good player, we know you play 2 divisions lower down from us, but how about coming to us we'll pay you the same wages your on now and if your good enough after a trial period we will give you a 2 yr contract"....after a year they are selling that said player on for a profit!!, with very little outlay to themselves ...and stomping through the leagues!!

The trouble with that is that you don't get "'owt for nowt". All these lower non-league players cost, as has been proved by us signing Bradshaw and only this week Gillingham signing a central defender from Maidenhead for an undisclosed fee. In essence that is fine but we don't seem to employ a scouting system to cover leagues below the BSP and any decent talent at the latter level comes at a big price.

Is that the coin on a string that Topcat used to give to the doorman in the self-titled Topcat cartoons?

there is an overabundance of talent in the BSP and from the northern section of league two, so any scouts we have wont have to travel far, you cant run a team on the terms of having no major youth set up or scouting system its a recipe for disaster!!...as we can now clearly see. I say, lets send all these waste of space loane'es back, hang on to our regular lads, build a solid defense, and look for some talent that are use to playing regularly at this level, at the start of the season we only needed a few tweaks here and there because we looked half decent but only loosing by the odd goal, GT has lost his way a little bit and now needs to get back to basics:emoticon-0101-sadsm

why can we not do what crewe do in bringing their youth on. they are still baskin g in the glory of what dario gradi set up. strikers galore amongst others brought on stream. nick powell sold for lord knows what at 17 to man u, clayton 18 another danger man about to go premier league.

town are good at producing goal keepers but not a lot else. where are towns striker coaches, what is our policy. if we cannot sort the basics out what hope is there for our senior squad. well done our lads at oldham, bound to give our dressing room a lift.

i repeat where are our coching staff and what is the policy. roland!! wallet please.

    -------------------------------------------------------

as for buying conference players, yes i totally agree to trials and signing if piss hot, but gt should be buying them in for the future, if our scouting is still baden powellesque and the coaches are not fit for purpose, rw/gt time to hire and fire. roland! wallet!! foreat salopia!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

People tend to forget that the past few decent BSP players have moved for 6 figure fees.

Not Free.Check your facts. Left Wrexham in similar circumstances to James Collins by showing little respect for the club.

i agree he fell out with the club but Crewe got him for absolute peanuts, but still worth a risk, he could become a big asset for Crewe in a few years time, or he could fall flat on his ar*e, but for peanuts its got to be worth the risk....we should be doing more of this type of business!!
