JWM I am sorry if you took any offence, clearly you are not enjoying this situation but your lack of posts when we win compared to when we lose is astonishing and you as was the Spanish of old goad those of us who disagree with you into making a response!! Also whenever I put an constructive counter argument on these boards you either do not reply with a constructive counter argument, goad me into getting angry with you by mocking me or take the moral high ground. JWM clearly your heart is in the right place and you have a right to be annoyed spending alot of your hard earned cash but your arguments posts on here just baffle me sometimes, of course you have a point but i find it hard to have a coherent argument with you because of it!!!
Like I say ptc each to their own. I have my views and you have yours so its probably best if we agree just to disagree. I have been calling for Clegg and Jewell to be dismissed for weeks and weeks now and as we spiral downwards my opinions have only crystalised more. We are going down with these 2 at the club and frankly I am amazed that you can't see what is blindingly obvious! The arguements for getting rid far out weigh the arguements for sitting tight! Jewell has made some bloody awful decusions and you cant keep blaming Keane.
PTC I really am unsure of what you are trying to say here, I have read your post a number of times and still can't work it out. I will answer a couple of questions for you though to try to explain why many of us have lost faith in Jewell, I say lost cos when he was announced as our manager I was far from excited but thought he may well do a job for us, this he did last season but since then he is doing worse than Keane, of whom while we are at it, I walked to the dugout against Barnsley last year to tell him exactly what I thought of him, he had many critics as you should try a little harder to remember that. You say "I find it hard to criticize PJ's transfer policy", really well last summer we needed 2 CBs what do we still need...2 CBs "of all his signings none really stick out as a terrible signing", how about Ellington & Ingimarsson. Tractorbhoy made a good point on this thread that all signings have a degree of risk/gamble about them, by his own summary Jewell has only got about 25% of his signings right, not good enough really is it.? You also make reference to the mess keane left us in with the amount of players needed to be brought in due to the amount of contracts about to expire last summer, are we not again faced with that this summer, again the same mistakes being made, another summer to spend rebuilding, potentially in League 1. If Jewell cannot get this team to stop making mistakes, the same mistakes week after week, then what on earth are we paying him & the coaching staff for, you make some very good points regarding Jewells shortcomings tactically, so why do you still, to a degree stand by him.? As for Clegg, he is a dumb ass who knows eff all about football or how a football club should be run, last week while we are all speculating about Manager/players etc. he decides to let us know that the turnstiles are going to be painted…..**** me….. For me he has only been brought in to help Marcus Evans shift Olympic packages etc. I bet Clegg is gone before the end of this year.! Now is not the time to sit tight & let things settle down, we still need somewhere between another 27-30 points to stay up this season, if we put that off for two or three weeks that is another 12 points less to play with, Evans needs to act now and act decisively… I don’t enjoy coming on here to moan about the club I love, follow home and away through thick & thin but we are on an express train to league 1, I am not sure that we would ever recover from that.! Respect your views PTC, I just don't agree with some of them..
Yes Keane did have many critics I was probably his biggest, although not half as many as he deserved and action should certainly have been taken quicker than it was to sack him, we wouldn't be in the mess we are in now if we had. Yes Jewell's record is worse than Keanes but Keane had alot more to work with. You raise some very good points, IMO it would have taken exceptional management to sort all of our problems out in 1 transfer window!! Ellington and Ingimarrson, IMO you can't say they are terrible signings, both were free and perhaps worth a shot with what was available to us. Ingimarrson although getting on played most games in the unbeaten streak reading had last season and Ellington was a class striker under Jewell at Wigan. Neither have obviously worked out so far but seeing as we needed alot of players I can understand why these 2 freebies were targeted, there was not a great deal of risk involved. Like I say although I don't think these signings will amount to anything I can understand in the predicament we were in over the summer why Jewell got them in. Yes its true, we've needed 2 CB's all summer and still do, but we needed a player in every position over the summer, i can accept that he was not going to be able to get players in every position and perhaps like many fans he thought Delaney was better than he actually is. Jewell could have handled the situation alot better but hindsight is a great thing and this season was always going to be one of struggle. Indeed we have another summer of players who will be out of contract, but not many of these will have a big part to play in the future of ITFC and if Jewell is still here, he will have a far better grasp of what players we need in the team and what is out there in order to probably take a bigger gamble, spend good money and get younger players in on longer contracts. Yes I do think Jewell is sometimes poor tactically and if I were to not stand by managers who I thought this of, I would be wanting every single manager we've had to be sacked straight away. Every ITFC manager I have known, us fans have questioned why the hell did he do that, why the hell did he play him over him, why did he sub him for he was our best player, why did he play one upfront, why did he play that formation. The same questions and criticisms have been used for every ITFC manager I have followed, Burley, Royle, Magilton, Keane and Jewell. I'm not saying I agree with all Jewell has done or saying I believe he is definitely the right man to take us forward but I can understand most of the decisions he has made with the predicament we are/were in, in an ideal world, he would of had more long term targets in mind over the summer. Like I say its a tough decision to make because if we carry on making stupid mistakes and conceding so many goals, we will go down but I think a new manager would face the same problems we currently have and would be less likely to be more prepared for transfer targets than Jewell and we need continuity at this football club(not for continuities sake though) not more change but league 1 football is unthinkable!! I'm also a stickler to go against the populist views of when things going wrong to automatically blame those at the top with the odd exception namely Keane.
