The fans all want them out of the SPL, they have systematically cheated for a decade and the fans should be delighted there will be a fair SPL for once, also it means theres a greater chance of a small club winning something or getting into europe. The SPL is a joke league, with or without Rangers.
I think a lot of people are enjoying this simply because they prefer Celtic over Rangers!! I know what they did was wrong and they must be punished, but put yourself in their fans' place. Nightmare!!
The SPL was set up after the initial success of the English PL, they saw the huge money clubs were making and decided they'd do the same, the difference being that it was Rangers and Celtic who profited whilst the other clubs had no chance being also-rans. The Old firm profited greatly from repeated champion's League appearances so the gap between them and the rest was a chasm. The other clubs in the SPL were reduced to doing everything they could to survive in that league, which included denying promotion to several clubs on the 'ground not up to standard' excuse. In other words all the clubs are greedy and want to protect their position at any cost. Now there is talk of the SPL and Scottish League joining together for the benefit of all clubs and a fairer and more inclusive package is being drawn up. The demise of Rangers is the opportunity the other 10 SPL clubs have been waiting for to change the structure and for Celtic, as well as Rangers, the party is over...
If Rangers don't start next season in the SPL could it be possible other clubs attendences could rise as they stand a reasonable chance of finishing second and qualifying for the champions league? If you take Celtic out as well you could end up with a very competitve league
There was talk of an Atlantic League with teams from Scotland, Scandinavia, Holland, Portugal etc that were too big for their little ponds but it never really took off, there have since been meetings and the idea may come to pass in the near future. That may result in a revamped Scottish League with Celtic & Rangers fielding reserve teams in the Scottish League, the same would apply to the other teams in the Atlantic League.....
That is quite a commonly held idea up here outside of Old Firm fans. I guess we'll find out next season either way though, because Rangers can't qualify for Europe for 3 years anyway because of being a newco.
