maybe the linesman was confident that he was offside! cant blame him! tight decision, but i cant help feeling that if it happened against us, a goal would have been given! just seems to be our luck this season!

Comparing football decisions to rugby or tennis technology just will not work. The latter are stop /start games thus allowing the study of events, stopping football in full flow when the ball is in play just will never happen.

Border line decisions are like missed chances or goalkeeper clangers - they're just part of the game. Live with it.

    What a load of trollocks.
The only time the officials have leeway in the RULES of the game are deciding on if a player is active or inactive and interfering with play in being offside. (A total load of **** as far as I'm concerned.)
There's no percentages involved, if they haven't seen an incident they can't make a decision on it.
They aren't supposed to be guessing!

Of course they aren't supposed to guess! But they have to weigh up what they see and make a decision on it! If a referee is pretty confident that a foul has been committed he will give a free kick / penalty but often he could never be 100% certain! If he is pretty confident that a foul has been committed but isnt 100% certain and doesnt give a free kick / penalty, he would probably have made the wrong decision and tv replays and pundits will crucify him for it! The linesman against Villa probably wasnt guessing (hopefully)! He was probably confident that it was offside by what he saw! But i bet when he saw the replay he realised that it was a hell of a lot closer than he thought! After all, he is only human!

Or putting it this way.......if a referee sees a penalty incident, thinks that it's probably a penalty, but also thinks that theres a small chance that the player may have dived, he still gives the penalty....surely??? He's got to play the percentages! Or am i wrong?

They don't have time to weigh it up(linesman), they either see it or they don't, so they either give it or they don't. The more they get wrong the ****tier the official. Pretty plain and simple to me like.
