He's right and if they are having to contact the powers above every 5 secs about trolls and people getting out of hand on the off-topic board the people above our moderators will just shut it anyway.
This is exactly what happens to the on-topic threads currently, so my feeling is it's better off confined to one thread than potentially any of them. The people who contribute off-topic posts often argue that it's easy to ignore the stuff you're not interested in, so I'm sure they wouldn't have any problem following multiple conversations in one thread.
In truth Dan....banning is not the best way to go.........we try not to have people banned......however it is the only way some will respond to. Sometimes these decisions are taken completely out of our hands. One poster got into an argument with the admin because he felt hard done by a mods decision and was lucky to get away with a short term ban rather than a indefinate. Nothing at all in this instance to do with us at all.
I wasn't suggesting banning as a regular solution but for trolls, surely banning is the best way to go?
Are you suggesting Saints do not have their fair share of trolls too.... Seriously......... yes you are absolutely right a small number will and do respond to a warning although it is reasonably obvious sometimes that a ban is the only option.
In fairness to us last night, all except one notable exception shut up in the rumour thread once you asked, and it's now back on topic (though, today's on topic is nothing, with no rumours!!)
You will have no argument from me there Dan..........I am grateful in particular for yours and notably Joes support too and the others. Unfortunately not all would oblige and got abusive and made it plain they thought they were above being asked and paid the price. He cannot say he was not asked and then warned...
Update Have just received a reply from the admin team about my request for info on sub-forums. It seems there is on going discussions or rather was, with the owner of the site in regards this subject. The owner is currently on his honeymoon it would seem. No decisions as to its viability has been made or likely to be made in the immediate future. However it is being discussed.
One of the best things about not606 is the generally friendly atmosphere. Sarcasm for the likes of this poster when doing something odd/strange or previously done but never nasty. It only takes a couple to spoil the boards but luckily we don't see a lot of abuse on our site.
Definitely think a 'sub-board' would be the best solution, having it all in one thread will make it difficult for new off topic, topics to get going.
Agree. And if anyone starts something off-topic in here, then it's easy for Beddy and co. to just put it over in the other forum.
If it's feasible, a sub-board would be a better solution. But if it isn't I still think something has to be done. It's not really good enough that people stop once asked by a mod, they should stop when asked by other members of the forum instead of giving them abuse.
