Max is bang to rights. Has to be 5 places. Looked to me like Bottas and Sainz are also guilty, but they don't seem to be under investigation.
Only Seb and Alonso lifted, but from the onboards only some of the others had yellows waving. Bottas and Sainz have now been summoned. Notably, it's only single waved yellows for them.
I thought that under waved yellows they automatically had their lap times deleted? We could be having a very mixed up grid here.
Could be very interesting if Hamilton is alongside Gasly tomorrow, who starts on softs. Gasly has nothing to lose. Can see him leading into the first corner. Surely Max is a slam dunk penalty? Still think it will be 1-2 Lewis/Max tomorrow.
All three have summons, but it won't be looked at until tomorrow afternoon. Suspicion is Max ignored double yellows (5 place grid drop), the other two a single yellow (3 place grid drop). Grid would be: 1. Hamilton 2. Gasly 3. Alonso 4. Norris 5. Bottas 6. Tsunoda 7. Verstappen 8. Ocon 9. Vettel 10. Sainz
Giving themselves a whole night to convince themselves that the excuse they're going to use for why they're not going to issue penalties for a slam dunk offence this time, is legitimate.
I've already seen a suggestion that it will be argued that the light boards take precedent over flags in a night race, and the boards weren't showing yellow flags. Ergo, there shouldn't be yellow flags. Or that if you know the boards are more important, you aren't looking for flags. I think it's a BS argument, if there's a car stopped on track you should be slowing regardless (Vettel or Alonso said as much), there's not time to think "there's a stopped car, and a yellow flag but an unlit board so I'll keep flat out". and if there's conflicting safety messages, you should always follow the most significant flag. Particularly when the boards could have failed and flags are the failsafe backup. It might be enough of a technicality for Red Bull to argue. I believe Verstappen's "hearing" is first, which is a shame. Merc would have gone into Bottas' arguing for a penalty otherwise!
There is also the steering wheel indications of the flags but I think they work off the same system as the light boards! Plus I seem to remember they changed the rules recently so that waved yellows automatically caused any timed laps that were in progress during the flags were deleted automatically. It's a bit annoying that due to quali finishing at 6pm local time they didn't want to stay and sort out the flag issues!!!
ofc it's bullshit, I just want Masi to come out and say "my decision is ze best decision" so we know where we are as fans.
Bottas looked like we was not happy with the cars un front slowing and was trying to go round. I'd say the lot will be done.
I am not expecting that any of them will be penalised. They should be but pretty confident they won't be. Ignoring he rules two races in a row, we all know things happen in threes so there will be another. All just my opinion. If this happens it proves Max is Mr Teflon man.
