If it hadn't have been for Jack Walker (refusing to sell to a rival) he'd have been gracing Old Trafford and would now have a cabinet full of medals ... and he knows it!!

And the reason for SKP's lack of chances at international level was down to two arseholes.
Kevin Kloggham, the Geordie Nation Messiah & the elbowing, face stamper.
Spunky Al had more say in the England set up than the FA.
    I loath him & always will - he's an arrogant ****. <ok>

Jack Walker said as much in his autobiography & SAF's confirmed that indeed, Man U was Shearer's choice.

Shearer would have had Ronaldo "whipping balls in first time where the striker wants it".

    Every cloud.

Cantona would have put him in his place mind. Nobody would have dethroned The King

I agree with Billy here, that Shearer had something to do with Phillips not getting the England chances he deserved. In his first book, Phillips tells how, when he turned up for his first international, Shearer said "Just clean my boots, will you Kevin?" (a reference to the situation when Phillips started as an apprentice at Southampton) and Phillips replied "Well right now, Alan, I'm in a position to tell you to f*** off." Whether Shearer meant it as a harmless joke and Phillips took it in bad spirit, or whether Shearer was taking a nasty bit of p**s, none of us will ever know. But certainly, there was some bad feeling in there, and Shearer never again said anything good about Phillips.

I wonder if he had signed for Man U how he'd have got on with Roy Keane.

I don't think he warrants a statue. Not yet anyway.

I really can't understand why they have not got a statue of Mike Ashley and Alan Pardew...All you would need is a pair of bowler hats and they could be Laurel and Hardy..

Sometime you have to put rivalry aside to avoid sounding a complete fool. Phillips career aside from Sunderland was a damp squib, was most definitely in the top 10 during his Sunderland days but his career as a whole didn't live up to that.

And shevchenko was crap at Chelsea.

Just because a player isn't as good at other clubs as they are at a particular one doesn't take anything away from how good they were

In the Championship aye? He was 1 in 2 in the prem for 3 seasons for Sunderland, 1 in 3 for a couple more at Southampton. Aside from that he was a 1 in 3 or 4 striker in the Championship. That is a damp squib.

Nor did I say it did, I said aside from being a fantastic striker at Sunderland his career was a damp squib, which no sane person would argue, especially on the premise that they managed to score the odd championship goal every now and again in their late 30's <doh>

Shearer at that age was nothing but a second rate pundit so what does that make him, a lame squid?

So your criteria for a good career is how long you carry on playing? I suggest you take up darts or golf and leave discussing football to people who actually know what they're on about. <ok> On second thoughts, no point in you doing that as in those sports you wouldnt be able to have a weekly rant at perfectly fair referees <doh>

Can't see the point of the darts comment and your golf comparison was well below par..

So you are saying shearer deserves to be there despite a shorter career, yet discounting kp because 'his prime' was shorter?
