He ain't been sacked yet, nowt on Sky anyhow. Just watched his post match interview, said he wants to analyse the game before commenting on what went wrong and he accepts full responsibility. Definitely didn't look like he was about to hand in his resignation.
Poyet looks excluded, even by the coaches & medical staff. We need to get rid of the man and bring in a tough manager with a 5 year contract.
Totally agree with this. The rot set in when Drumaville handed the reigns over to Short. First we had Quinn leaving, then it's just gone from disaster to unmitigated disaster. I think Short's idea was just to keep things ticking over: make limited funds available and keep the wages down, in the hope the he could reap the rich rewards from the Sky contract. I think even the managers he's brought in, after O'Neill, have been the cheap options. It's totally blown up in his face. We look a shambles of a club. To be honest, with Short's tactics, relegation was going to come at some point. You can't keep bobbing about the bottom three, each year, without the inevitable happening. As crazy as it might seem, I think we may, still, escape this year; mainly due to the fact that there are 3 clubs who are equally as bad but we have stolen march on them. The fact is, six points might see us escape. Looking further forward, though, to next season, we need dramatic changes, or that trapdoor will finally open.
I have to disagree with you there mate Di Canio wasn't solving problems while he was here he put his ego above the need of the club and drove a wedge between himself and the first team to the detriment of the club. Yeah the players were and still are arse holes but the way he went about things was only going to end up with us relegated, hence why I believe it was entirely the right decision to get rid when we did. Of course that left the problem of the core of the team being rotten as you say and feeling like they rule the roost what we need now is a strong manager (not a dictator type) to carefully trim that core down and get the ones that are worth keeping back in line.
I would argue that a strong manager is one that knows when to hold firm and when to be flexible in order to get the best out of his team
I'm not sure you can blame Short for the clubs problems. He's spent a huge amount of money and been burned. Not surprising he's been a bit wary of late. He.s every right to expect a manager to bring decent players to the club and get them playing well. They haven't. The last 3 managerial appointments all looked inspired in their own way but haven't worked out. I wanted Poyet to stay to see it through and there's far too many managerial sackings these days. As I see it now there are only 2 hopes for us. 1) Rely on other teams being worse 2) Get Sam Allerdyce in now - and I've never benn a great fan but he could do a proper job.
My view.... Gus should go. The honourable thing for him to do would be to resign. He will hang on for his pay day. The PDC thing - he was spot on. he tried to do too much too quickly, but was spot on and for those on the board at the mo saying a couple of years in the championship would be a blessing, then he would have overhauled correctly and changed the culture at thew club which is what we all want. It wouldn't have been pretty though. If I were Ellis/Gus or anyone with any clout at SAFC, I would give the kids a chance now rather than wait till we go down...its kind of a no lose situation as the current crop of journeymen are stirring us in one direction. Who to bring in. It has to be Roy Keane for me (without the beard though).
I would argue that falling out with a significant proportion of the first team squad was putting his ego above the need of the club not to mention freezing Bardsley and Cattermole out. I'm not saying the players didn't need to be challenged but the way he went about it had us heading for relegation and rightly got him the sack.
Once again I'd say that you only have the word of underachieving players for that. The 'senior players' are the same ones who were waving the white flag today.
PDC's tactics were as suspect as GP's are now and both demonstrated that they are maybe not suited for top management. Both were rookies and their mistakes are all too obvious. How we survived last year can never be repeated and was taken by everybody as a sign for this season and now we cannot repeat that form or enthusiasm. Just hope one of the bottom three do not put two wins together. Today was every bit as bad as Soton.
Our first team is worse than last season. You put Borini, ki and the left back in this team I would wager we would stop up. Defoe now looks like an expensive mistake.
