What a day that was, that (along with Walsall & our JPT Win) are what you remember for the rest of your life.

Funnily enough, having been a Saints fan for many years and having something of a perverse nature, I actually found our last match staying up heroics over the years to be more exciting. To be fair, we were never really going to lose to Coventry or Wallsall, but I remember a particularly dour 0-0 with Wimbledon as we battled with Man City for relegation to be unbelievably exciting.

Fighting relegation is only fun in retrospect when you escape. I remember 2005 too clearly to want to go through that again. I remember a few fans moaning how boring it was when we were midtable for a while...be careful what you wish for. I'd settle for midtable next season...I'd take it now.
No way am I wishing for it. It is, as you say, retrospective. The huge feeling of relief that follows the feeling of impending doom.

Never liked relegation battles. Not even the bitter-sweet relief. One might have survived, but deep down I know we've been nothing more than relegation fodder. I suppose I might be the most bizarre Saints fan in that I've never really enjoyed putting up with a mediocre team overall, whether it punches above its weight or not. I've never liked the epithets Struggling Southampton, and much prefer Super Saints. This new ambitious era can't get into its stride fast enough for me, because I'm not getting any younger.
