Iremember a documentary a few years ago saying that the technology to run cars on by products made from chicken **** had been in place for years but the oil companies had put the frightners on the guys & then paid them to keep shtum.
I didnt expect the degree of response that this thread has brought, and the sensible comments that have been made, and strangely enough no swearwords, now how good is that?
I won't go through your counter-counter claim 1 by 1 - suffice to say some of it is valid. We always look back upon the past through nostalgic rose-tinted spectacles - it was no ****ing utopia.
... . In my opinion...youâre like a recently disinfected ****-house, youâre clean round the ****ing bend...
Thanks Bill for posting it. I have cut and pasted the original and emailed it to some of my friends as it brought back a lot of good memories of my life growing up, although also some that were not so good. I remember the open fire and the bleazer too. Can you imagine teaching a 10 year old these days how to light a fire. Social services would be round in a flash! I used to love toast made over the glowing coals of a fire. Was probably carcinogenic with all the coal tar cos it tasted sort of smoky, but with loads of butter it tasted heavenly when you came home from school and were starving. But who would go back to houses with no central heating? I also remember the frost on the bedroom windows on the INSIDE and how bloody cold it was to get washed and dressed. I still hate cold rooms first thing in the morning!
Thought it was too good to be true, the swearing bit, very next response,,,,,,,,,,,,bang,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,never mind eh? I by the way swear worse than any trooper, as if you didnt know, but thought it strange that no swearing appeared, until the next response, I actually thought we were going back to a time when that didnt happen, when bugger was a bad word. when you were brought swiftly back to reality by your mother calling you by your full christian name, and your sunday best clobber, went with your naughty boy christian name, I would give everything I have to see my grandmother again, as all of you would like to see your special one. never going to happen in this life I know, but still hear the Word, spoken as a warning " WILLIAM" That meant I was in the poopie, But how Id like to hear that voice again. And whatever trouble I was in I would savour it. every moment.
In my day, we didn't have fancy health-food restaurants. Every day we ate lots of easily recognizable animal parts, along with potatoes. Ps: Kids today think the world revolves around them. In my day, the sun revolved around the world
Back then, the tram or bus would've cost pennies (even by trodays standards) If I want to get to work using the bus it'd cost me about a tenner for the return journey To bring the car the journey costs me less than £2 each way - even when you add on insurance, car tax etc it's still cheaper to bring the car... The country nowadays has no idea about being green - although we also had no idea when we were younger - even though all of the stuff Bill said is true - there were a lot of bad things on the other end of the see saw which meant we were probably as bad then as we are now!!!
