Just seen that he's decided to retire

    http://www.football365.com/league-one/7951015/Burgess-hangs-up-his-boots

Always like the guy just a shame that his injuries got the better of him

My favourite moment of his was when he scored a Hat-trick for us against Kidderminster at home, although i'm sure there are many other favourite moments of his for you guys.

I wish him well with whatever he does now be it coaching or something else

    *doffs cap*

EDIT - I've just seen the other thread now sorry can this be merged if its poss

Top bloke I will not forget at Blackpool when he scored the winner for them he later said on the wireless that he took no pleasure in scoring that goal and he never wanted to leave, also he did not celebrate the goal either so I reiterate Top Bloke all the best Ben.

That game was the start of our climb up the leagues, and Oxford's downward spiral to the conference.

It really was. After that game Atkins announced he was leaving for Brizzle, they spiralled massively, fell out of the automatics and then fell apart in the play-offs. The year later they were relegated.

    Incredible.

Remember that Oxford game well, Burgess and Allsopp were amazing that season. They had a similar type of performance away at Swamsea that season too if i remember right. Didn't Burgess get the first hat-trick at the KC as well. Sad to hear he's had to hang up his boots early. Good luck Ben.

Great striker. Scoring them class finishes in the friendly against then Premier League White ****e when we beat them 2-0 in a friendly when we were League 2. (Division 3). Awesome guy, it's a shame to see him go. Very rare players retire at 30 nowadays. Must have had some serious problems with injury.

    Dudfield/Alexander
    Allsopp/Burgess
    Windass/Campbell

In my time supporting City, those are the great strike partnerships. Burgess was a massive help in getting us to where we are today, hope he does well in his retirement.

Totally agree, but I think you missed out the Eyre/Brown partnership of old ;).

And I remember that! Bloody brilliant day, I remember Jason Wilcox getting substituted after 6 minutes for being a dirty b*sta*d

    Great?

Windass/Campbell are in a different universe to the other ones.

I'm being mega pedantic but I don't think he ever played for us in League 1.

    Stop it.

He was never really the same for us after his injury. Was a real shame when he got injured because he was on fire in the first promotion and Allsopp never really adapted to playing without him either.

Good luck to him in whatever he decides to do.

We've moved on since then. They played for us at the level we're at now and we'rent good enough to get us promoted. We've surpassed their achievements yet people still talk of them as some kind of supermen.
