City was my father's team but he always had a soft spot for Rovers and was pleased when they won. My father-in-law is from Manchester and is a City man but his best friend at school was United and they used to go to Old Trafford and Maine Road together on alternative weeks. Back in those days there were people who, while partisan, followed the fortunes of both Pompey and Saints. All this hatred is a relatively recent thing and is all rather sad and pathetic really.
