After a welcome win yesterday how do we feel about Saturday? I can see MM looking to secure a draw by parking the bus(yawn).
Defeat mate I'm looking forward to going and having a messy weekend I'd say any team going to St James will be lucky to pick up a draw, different class due to parachute ££££. Disgrace. Players like Ritchie happy to drop down as Toon paying a fortune in wages.
That's right Westy there's a gulf in income and therefore quality players at Clubs like Newcastle compared to most of the other teams in the division, besides Ritchie they've also got Gayle from Palace who will be on Prem wages also, when parachute payments were extended by two years it effectively made sure the Prem remained an old boys club with a few exceptions, as you say disgraceful.
Can anyone indicate whether the whole issue of parachute payments has been fully discussed, other than raised at Football League meetings? Naturally the Prem clubs hold the bargaining chips and majority vote on any important FA issue.... Such an unfair playing field!
Typical old boys network which isn't going to change anytime soon, can you really see the turkeys voting for Xmas?!
Everyone knows my feelings on PP. I can't stand the thought that teams get REWARDED for failure. In my opinion, if a club spends beyond it's means and offers ridiculous contracts and gets relegated then that's the clubs fault. If that results in administration then so be it. Clubs feel they can go out and spend because they know there is a fall back plan in place. Don't get me wrong though, as much as I dislike PP I sure want ITFC to be taking advantage of it! It is still possible to make it to the Premier league though, look at some of the 'smaller' teams that have done it recently. You just have to get it right on the pitch. That's not going to happen under our current owner or manager though.
Wouldn't it be lovely if one day football was back to the old days of an even playing field. I have no issue with Sky/BT throwing money at the premiership, but once you're relegated, that should be the end of your "allowance". If the relegated club have no means to afford the higher earners, and they don't want to stay, then sell them. In saying that, every club should put a clause into every players contract that if they are relegated, their wages will drop by x% (to cover the shortfall in revenue). That way, you should get players playing more with heart, as they don't want to get relegated with their wages being slashed. I agree with SD above, I detest the thought of clubs getting around £90m for being promoted (over 3-4 years). It's wrong, immoral, and completely unfair (but will probably change my mind if we ever did get promoted - highly unlikely I know)
Exactly stretchy. It's not difficult to put clauses in contracts to protect the club in the event of relegation.
I'll go for a surprising 2-2 draw. Best to score first and Williams to Sears for his second in two games. Bet that would make nice odds.
Amen Stretchy. It was a disgrace years ago when Leicester went up despite being in admin. I bloody hate it. You've come bottom, yet you get MILLIONS more than struggling sides in the league below... all well and good if you're top flight with the riches horrible if not! Surely one of you fine chaps are also going to the Toon and we could have a pint !? Over 2500 sold thus far apparently
No offence guys, but the fact we had money to spend on the likes of Richie and Gayle has nothing to do with parachute payments, we sold Sissoko, Winjaldum and Townsend for £70m collectively, and from our summer transfer dealings we're still £30m in profit. And this isn't because we signed them on massive fees to start with, it's because our transfer dealings have been very savvy - i.e. we bought Sissoko for £3m and sold him for £30m. We would still be in this position regardless of the parachute payments, and for the record I disagree with PP as well and think they should be abolished.
Whatever happened to QPR's case? I'm guessing that was all swept under the carpet and forgotten about
This is why I don't get the constant McCarthy bashing. Every year the prospect of promotion is getting harder and harder. I know he's not the most fashionable, dynamic manager, but he's been pretty consistent and given us back a team that play for each other and care. If someone new did come in I'd be ok with that, if we needed a change to try something new. But, I wouldn't have bad feelings towards Mick, I'd still remember that he saved us, kept us challenging and wish him good luck.
My feelings exactly CS, who would come here when told at the interview that theres no transfer budget to improve the team, and any decent players would be sold to the highest bidder and the money raised not re invested in the playing staff, who would want to work under those restrictions but still be expected to compete with the rich boys and their Prem budgets for Prem players?
Damn. Thought we may get away with a creditable 1-0 loss. No surprise though, looking at Newcastle's squad.
