Came over to see my Mam who had fallen and broke her hips - so in the afternoon I took my dad up to Gorseinon hospital to see her. So come to the end of the visit and i said to my Mam - OK I'll pick dad up and we'll come and see you tonight - and she says' What are you talking about - the Swans are playing tonight' I said 'but I came from Canada to see you' she said'you can see me tomorrow biut you can't see the Swans - go to the game' I did - bit of an easy one!
On this day 23 years ago, Diana Princess of Wales died. On this day 8 years ago, my friend John (who was in Neath Grammar with me and who lived with us in a (student) flat in Cardiff for 2 years) went home from work, sat down to watch cricket on tv and died in his chair. He was 54. RIP
None necessary Taff. 19 years ago I was playing pool in the boozer - about 2pm it was. Everything stopped we all just watched the telly getting pissed.
I was in work - someone heard about the first plane, so we went to the TV room. Watched dumbstruck when the second plane hit ....
I was in work when one of the warehouse lads who was having his dinner was watching TV and a news flash came up, we couldn’t believe what was going on, especially when they collapse. I visited ground zero back in December, very moving place to visit. I’ll post some images tomorrow to mark the anniversary.
I was enjoying a golf day and we were just walking off the 18th green when we heard the news. I will never forget watching those TV images as we watched it unfold. Like Nev we visited Ground Zero a couple of years ago and very moving. We have a friend who worked in an adjoining Tower Block and have spoken to him a few times about it. It really brings it home.
We did a cracking 2hr tour of ground zero, the guide was fantastic and took us around the whole area, through the shopping mall and into the American Express building. The whole tour was about a certain NYFD ladder 6 crew, they were the only ladder not to lose anybody. This is the story. https://amp.theguardian.com/world/2001/oct/01/september11.usa
If my memory is correct I think American Express Lost 9 people in the north tower, they did all the travel arrangements for people. The memorial to the ones that were lost is very thought provoking, it’s called the teardrop, where one drop of water falls into a nonagon quadrant with their name.
I was on a coach going to watch the Swans in Plymouth. When news filtered through on various old style mobile phones and the radio we stopped en route for a cup of tea lol checked if the game was still on and watched the drama unfold on a pub tv. Watched the game in a daze...think the players did too...we lost but nobody really cared...
