On this day back in 2002 one of the greatest fights ever staged happened.
The 9th round of this cracking fight has been called by many as the greatest round ever, i for one agree. In a time when boxers were boxers and not businessmen this fight was unbelievable. GATTI vs WARD... 18th may 2002, never to be forgotten!!!!
If you’ve been living on Mars for the last 20years and haven’t seen or heard of it, look it up, you will not be disappointed....

Fantastic spectacle, savage fight. Sadly Ward's got brain damage due to taking too many hits to the bonce. Like many others in the boxing game.

I know it's their choice, they know what they're getting into, a path out of crime and poverty, and all that, but watching 2 men batter themselves stupid in front of a baying crowd is as unedifying as it is exciting.

I like it but I don't at the same time.

Well said.

There's the 'noble art - and there's events where a crowd is baying for blood as two fighters batter each other senseless, which is another thing entirely.
