Nah, a chest high studs up leg aimed in the direction of an oncoming player, that's what got him his red, your lying to yourself if you think you wouldn't agree if one of the Spurs players got the same. But we ain't gonna agree so good luck for the rest of the season bar the next time we meet this season.
Clearly there is an issue with tactics. Playing the high line leaves a big hole behind the defense and any team capable of playing hoofball stands a chance of beating us. Any team like Citeh or Pool who are capable of mixing it as well as hoofing the ball will surely hammer us every time. In addition, playing a lone striker is one thing, the striker being marooned in no mans land is another. Get someone closer to the striker ffs. Finally I think its too late for AVB. With players who are on the Spurs pay-roll openly taking the piss out of him on twitter his time is up, or at least it will be just before lunch time today.
So why do you think he was trying to kick Suarez in the chest? Unlike Luis, Paulinho has no record of losing his temper and whilst we were 2-0 down we were coming more into the game. It's a yellow all day, unfortunately that doesn't mean an appeal would be successful these days.
It wouldn't have mattered much if Paulinho stayed on as Liverpool kept causing problems by playing long passes, it was too easy for them. Not to mention that was the first time since the premier started we failed to have a shot on target at White Hart Lane.
But he did kick him just under the arm pit -yes or no? He doesn't pull away at any moment - yes or no? Does someone need to have lost their temper to commit a red card offence - yes or no? It was a red card all day and night long - The only shame is for you - AVB now has a straw to cling to that the result is a false one. You dont honestly believe that, now, do you? You're in meltdown due to the following: 1. Over the last 4 years you have indesputably become a Top 4 contender - By that I mean joining the regular elite, even being mentioned as potential champions - You are quite clearly regresing. 2. Selling Bale for that amount of money was going to bring you the quality you needed to make the jump to the Top3/4 - It quite obviously hasn't and one could argue you have no better now than what was there. 3. You know that AVB is not the answer, he is a man that thnks only for his own glory, that's why he so invested in Europa League last year when he should have solely concentrated on the Prem. 4. You're actually playing lousy football for a Spurs team and you're position is a false one - The majority of your 1-0s were unjust. 5. You are being destroyed by the Top 4 - Arsenal took your pants down, you looked so scared against Chelsea in that 2nd half (unlucky Torres Red card?) and as for City and Liverpool - well, nothing more needs to be written on that. Everyone has had a soft spot for Spurs (outside of Top 5 clubs) for ever. But, got to say, this man AVB, he is so obviously out of his depth, arrogant and so devoid of humour and passion that it is now a pleasure to see you getting walloped. By the way - thanks for BAE and Carroll, not surprised there's no room for them in your squad as you have so much better. Your avatar seems rather appropriate as that to is a blinkered cnut!!!
Well we stuck the ball in the back of the net once and it was ruled out for a legal shoulder barge(even Alan Smith said it was a bad call) and then we should've had a penalty at the start of the second half. Maybe they would have gone on to win anyway but I think with a better referee we would've still been in the game.
got nothing to do with whether it's intentional or not, it was reckless and tbh even the anti-suarez media see it as such
The height of the foot doesn't make it a red card. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0vy5mLiM76E - this was successfully appealed, for example. The reason I mentioned temper is because the post I quoted seemed baffled how anyone could think Paulinho set out to "deliberately try to land one on Suarez". You don't set out to hurt someone unless you've lost your temper and I don't think there was any sign Paulinho had. It's got nothing to do with AVB, even Gerrard and Carragher thought it was harsh.
The other point is that the appalling refereeing takes away from a fine victory for Liverpool and as others have said provides excuses for a very poor display from Spurs.
You're right and we didn't deserve anything on the balance of play even up until the red but the fact is we could've had something. You don't always get what you deserve on the balance of play and the ref made it easier for Liverpool than it might've been.
Appeal the red. Paulinho has not got previous, nor a rep for malicious antics, so you never know. On the decision : sometimes they are reds, sometimes they are not. The context of the above is more important to me than the match-time decision.
i was too busy crying to come back to this thread after my original comment. We can't blame the ref, he was consistent. Pauly left his boot in, or more correctly, adjusted to make sure he made a decent contact. The only saving grace was it was on Suarez who is due a few kickings (although behaviour much improved i do have to say, and i liked what he was doing as captain). Dawson's was a yellow. Holtby was pushing his luck. The Soldado shoulder barge was with "undue force" and rightly blown for. Liverpool were better than us. They've been better than us all season. They were better than us some of last season too. They've kicked on since they got Brendan and we stagnated and then went backwards under AVB. Yeah we were missing defenders, but that is no excuse for THAT. We couldn't even create a straight defensive line. They had key players missing too, we should have been winning in midfield but we got dominated by 2 players who wouldn't get in our team. Suck it up lads, we got our arses handed to us by a better TEAM. End of story. We've got the players, IMO, to compete with Liverpool and the others for top 4, but they need to start performing. Something is toxic in the club. We ALWAYS underperform. When did we overperform like i think some clubs are this season (newcastle, everton, southampton etc)? Under Harry we overperformed for half a season, that is about all i can remember. Getting into the CL under Harry was par for our squad.

"Depends what the sex is like, could be" I was thinking more in an Alison Goldrapp / Will Gregory way than an Annie Lennox / Dave Stewart way ... <run>
What a 24hrs! All I can say on the game is, Jordan Henderson should not be turning up at WHL in a team minus Gerrard and walking away with MOM for his midfield display. Dembele, he looked tired and off the pace...anyone might think he'd played some needless minutes in a pointless game on Thursday! Its these kind of decisions that have got avb the sack.
I spoke to a mate of mine who's a lower league ref earlier and he was far from impressed with his colleague's performance. He normally defends virtually any display by the officials and points out things that might be mitigating factors, which I may have missed, but he was scathing. As I said earlier, it's not an excuse and he didn't cost us the game, as we were appalling from start to finish, but I don't want to see him at WHL for a very long time.
