It comes from the manager. He has to have that belief in attacking teams early but also set them up to push the opposition back. Sherwood wants us to attack but we leave ourselves open. Eriksen is talented but for me too inconsistent and we lack some aggression. But then like you say performance drops off and then fans moan second half!
Tbh as much as I've been giving Sherwood the benefit of the doubt and want him to be a success, I don't see him staying on. It's all setup for Levy to bring in a big name this summer. Which I think you believed anyway!?
20 Premier League points won by Tim Sherwood from the 27 on offer. Not too shabby, when you look at it in the cold light of day... Tottenham Hotspur Manager's Records & Statistics 1898-2014
Realistically, yes, but I've nothing against Sherwood and would be more than happy to see him become a success. But we all know what Levy is like and I have a sneaking suspicion that even 4th place won't be good enough... Levy will think that Van Gaal can do even better.
Well yes, I'd prefer to see him central (and drop Dembele) but then who plays left? Townsend was only just back from injury today and I really don't rate Chadli. I'd imagine that the system today was setup to counter Everton's midfield... and it mostly worked, apart from the opening few minutes they didn't create many clear chances.
The problem I have with Eriksen is he's talented, has great vision but I don't believe we can rely on him to open teams up if we go out and attack. Liverpool have Gerrard, Suarez, Sturridge, Countinho, Sterling and Henderson all in great form. We don't have players at that level. It's only really Adebayor who's been consistently good. Even Lennon who I rate has had poor games but he's carrying an injury. Paulinho isn't performing yet. Townsend is not there yet either. To many attacking players not in form. But I'm hoping against Newcastle we can have more joy as Newcastle need o attack.
"It comes from the manager." The point is that even at the best of our recent so-called "flowing" football, there were very few games where a full 90 mins of both blitzkrieg and CM control were in evidence. A Spurs manager who gets the equivalent of recent squads and sets up to the best of Arry and AVB is going to do serious PL damage.
I think that Dembele can play out there, but Chadli would be an improvement on basically not playing anyone down the left. Osman had enough chances in the first 20 minutes to bury us on his own, unfortunately. We should've been well behind by half-time. The biggest problem for Everton was the poor substitutions by Martinez. They were far less effective once Naismith was withdrawn. If we were set up to disrupt they way that the opposition play, then starting with nobody covering Rose and no holding midfielder was rather naive, at best. Our central midfield was an absolute mess. No creative force, nobody breaking up play and nobody supporting Adebayor.
Well our current squad is lacking. It's not just ability but both Avb and Redknapp had a clear vision of playing and had players in great form to do damage. Currently we're lacking attacking players in form. You can debate that's either down to Sherwoods system or injuries. Possibly combination of both. Even last year Avb had Defoe, Lennon and Bale all playing some of the best football of their career. Redknapp had numerous players playing great football. Who does Sherwood have? No one is playing their best football yet.
Maybe Dembele could, I've a feeling he would drift in too often. Chadli v No-one... hmmm.... that's a difficult one Eh, Naismith was the only one was I was sorry to see go, the crowd had started taking the piss after he mis-controlled a few times and he looked done. The earlier substitution of Barkley for Pienaar was what seemed to kill them for me, and I was glad to see the back of Osman too.
This is what I've been trying to say. Today I was pleased with him though. He put a freekick into the top netting and worked hard on the left trying to link up with Rose. The lack of creation was there again but at least he was a willing worker and ever looking to get things going. Overall today I thought we were lucky to win. They didn't cause us a whole lot of problems after the first 5 or 10 minutes but neither did we and it was a brilliant move that exposed them and a great finish that won it but there wasn't anything else to talk about with that. 3 great points against a top side and I think we started to look a bit more organised. Still a long way to go but Bentaleb showed that he could do a holding role and our fullbacks did well too, it's just a case of getting our wingers into it more. One last thing. Ade was superb again, he's making it very difficult for me to keep disliking him.
Yes, that's why I'm saying it comes from the manager but also we have to remember Sherwood doesn't have a Bale or Vdv. He has players who are inconsistent in nature and that's why I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt as it's harder, especially for an inexperienced manager, to get us playing great football. It will take more time. Yet whats It matter, Levy has probably already sorted out Sherwoods replacement!
Removing Naismith wasn't really the problem, as he looked like he'd run out of steam. Not replacing him with anyone who could play up top was what destroyed their shape though, in my opinion. His movement across the front of our defence caused us a variety of problems and created space for others, primarily Osman, by drawing out our centre-halves. Capoue's introduction might have restricted anyone playing a similar style, but Traore might've given us something to think about, had he come on.
I agree with this pretty much; we became too dependent on Bale and this covered the cracks that were there last season. As Boss says aprt from Ade no has been much of a force aprt from Townsend early on with a few cameos which we paid for with lots of wasted ball. Paulinho in one of Sherwoods first games and Dembele. Dembele? he is an enigma he has such ability to keep the ball and drive through but it is if he has no football brain at all. He seems to be at a loss with what to do with it once he has made an often successful move, surley somebody can work with him to improve his decision making!
"Yes, that's why I'm saying it comes from the manager but also we have to remember Sherwood doesn't have a Bale or Vdv." And neither did AVB this season. "He has players who are inconsistent in nature and that's why I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt as it's harder especially for an inexperienced manager, to get us playing great football. It will take more time." So AVB deserves particular criticism as in this particular scenario, as he is ostensibly the more experienced manager, "Yet whats It matter" It matters if the claim is that the players are the primary problem, not the manager.
This isn't invented Striker, wing dimension! Although Pnp thinks he can play winger so I won't disagree too much as he did play some decent games on the wing for Fulham.
Would like to see him tried there then if he's going to start, as he infuriates me in CM. It might help if the only decision he has to make at the end of his run is how to cross it in instead of "should I play him in, should I shoot, should I step on the ball, should I...oops I've lost it again".
I blame AVB at least partly for that, he trained the players to play his boring slow build up with the emphasis on keeping possession, so now when we want them to play quick one-touch passing it's hardly a surprise that they're unable to do something that they were discouraged from doing before. Hopefully that will improve with time.
