In other news, Saints are beating United in their final game. Pochettino doing his CV no harm in his quest for a new job next season. No doubt Levy monitoring that situation.
Obviously the usual suspects will be lining up their reasons for why this result doesn't count. Are we the only club that doesn't need WUMs from other teams?
"Obviously the usual suspects will be lining up their reasons for why this result doesn't count." The main reason is that Villa are s**t and don't deserve to remain in the PL.
Easy as you like. It's a bit of a cliché to say the players are on their summer holidays but Villa's really are. Guzan and Delph look like the only professional players they have out there. Still, it's been good stuff out there from us. We look so much better with Sandro in there and, whilst I'm not sure where the 5 ahead of him are supposed to be playing, they're all covering eachother, working hard and making good runs.
<quote> Southampton 1-0 Man Utd Posted at 15:52 Manchester United fans greet news of Tottenham's 3-0 lead over Aston Villa with cheers. They are clearly quite happy for their team to concentrate on an improved Premier League campaign in 2014-15 rather than the hassle of Thursday night Europa League ties in the back of beyond. </quote>
Pretty boring second half and Sherwood pissed me off with the subs, the favourites staying on despite playing lethargically, but who cares as long as he's gone in the next day or two.
Pauli and Eriksen would have made sense to avoid a <standard> ending their WC. Veljkovic on in MF was silly, and him and Bentaleb in MF ground CM to a halt (something seen quite a bit for half of the U21 season) .
I feel well happy that we are in Europe, annoyed that below Everton as that shows a step backwards, but all in all for a disappointing season to be in Europa and with added bonus of being above ManU, is not overly shabby. Annoyed that ManU will nick our chance of a decent manager though. Now for the transfer gossip!
That performance pretty much summed up the season - promised much (an improved 1st half performance) and ultimately disappointed. The result of some strange substitutions that wouldn't have made any sense against a better side than Villa. And that wouldn't be hard to find...... Hardly did their travelling support proud!!
With Soldado on the bench it was disrepectful not to bring him on, in my opinion. Ade was strolling about, losing the ball and getting caught offside so he might as well have been off the pitch and even if Sherwood wanted to keep the teacher's pet on he still could have taken Kane off, who was hardly going to prove anything in the last half an hour that we haven't seen from him in his 6 game run in the team. As you say as well, Veljkovic and Bentaleb aren't exactly the most exciting midfield partnership and Sandro's had plenty of rest thanks to Sherwood so it's not like he needed to go off.
Anyone else think Naughton was really good today? He looked confident and composed on the ball for once and, whilst Villa weren't great, that's probably the best I've seen him play.
I never bet on Spurs...but today I had a flutter on Paulinho first goalscorer and Spurs 3-0 at 70-1. Today is a good day. We should however have put them to bed regardless of my betting allegiances. It was a good first half performance though I thought. Last day syndrome probably hit us in the second half - nothing to play for, no serious Villa threat to the scoreline and the subs reflected that. Hopefully we will hear news on Sherwood and the forthcoming managerial appointment ASAP, and start building for next season.
