Just as a matter of interest, WeWant - have you ever tried fending a rock hard piece of leather coming at you at 80mph away from your face?

Cricket's not as sedate as it looks...<laugh>

Give me cricket, rugby, football, athletics rowing even graeco roman wrestling rather than the current trend sport of two thumbs on a video game. There is more purpose in combative tiddlywinks than anything on a ps2, xbox or any other attempted simulation of over dramatised and unreal life that video games portray.

Don't worry Stu I was only messing about, crickets not for me, but I'm sure those who enjoy it have good reason for doing so.

Tewkes, no I haven't, though I did nearly break most of the fingers on my right hand last time I tried to play <laugh>

Sorry Kish, saw your post and skimmed over it as it hurt my eyes <laugh> having now read it, its a very interesting take on things <ok>

Sorry, kish. Would have probably seen it earlier if it was in your thread, but sadly missed it whilst trying to keep an eye on the other posts.

It was an enjoyable read no doubt, much like the other articles on your site <ok>

Thats ok mate, no offence taken ! - it just irks me when people can have a sly dig at cricket - which seems to be a regular thing for anybody who has not a) played the game or b) never taken the time to try to watch it and udnersdtand it or c)both.
I'm sure that Tewkes will back me up here, but anyone who has had any involvement with the game absoultely LOVES cricket in no way that any sport can achieve- and for anyone to have a pop at it just shows some sort of immaturity in my opinion.
I never used to be able to 'get' Rugby League, but whilst working in Leeds for 2 years i took the time to watch it and understand it, and now think its one of the fastest, hardest sports going.
In a non-sporting sense, i also spent a year working in Oz, and always foud time to find the good things about Oz and would relay that to Ozzie colleagues, not Oz-bash like the way that some Poms want to do or the other side when Ozzies want to come here, take our money but Pom-bash at the same time - that really irks me too.
To me its all about common sense and courtesy - some people have it , some people dont ! But also people are entitled to their opinions too - but in having opinions, they should have some background knowledge to back up those opinions too.

I'm soooo proud to say that as a Dad, all of my sons are as mad about Cricket as i am (didnt all work with Charlton BTW as one of my sons has no interest in football whatsoever). In my opinion, i'd rather they have a role-model of Andrew Strauss than John Terry - wouldnt you?

    Rant over (again!)

Shall I supply you with a ladder, Stu, so that you can climb down off of your high-horse?

In fact, I know a hell of a lot about cricket and would quite happily go head-to-head with most people in a quiz about the sport.

When I said 'pointless' I meant it literally. It has no points. It has runs.

Mike Gatting lives about 5 minutes away from me and we had coffee about a year ago in Starbucks, Enfield Town. I have his autograph and will happily send it to you for absolute gratis. You can have it for your collection.

By the way, I would rather have Fabrice Muamba for a role-model than Mervyn Westfield - wouldn't you?

Lol , Ponders i'm quite impressed, maybe you do know a little bit more about cricket than i gave you credit. However, to use the comparison of Muamba v Westfield as opposed to Strauss v Terry in terms of a role model is a bit extreme in the least - maybe you could have been a bit more selective !!

Can you ask him for my tenner back please that he took off me at Headingley a few years back (first day of footy season when Charlton were playing Wycombe - the same day Norwich got beat 7-1 at home by Colchester- and eventually went on to win the league).

Talking about Norwich, based on our style of play now and the same style that Norwich employed at the Valley that season (1-0 to Norwich but we had about 20 shots on goal to their 1), we are very similar. Lets hope we can make the further progress that they have made- sometimes you have to go backwards to go forwards.

I suppose I was just highlighting that not all cricketers are gentlemen and paragons of virtue. If there were as many cricketers as there are footballers, I am sure the ratio of badly behaved willow-wielders would be quite high, too. I don't believe any sport has the right to claim the moral high-ground when it comes to decent behaviour and ethical superiority.

After all, the Bodyline Series was instigated by a bunch of bad-eggs.
