I quite enjoyed it until I saw that odious gargoyle from Liberty carrying the Olympic flag in. After that, I was feeling very sick.
We celebrate Doreen Lawrence in her never ending search for justice. Said the commentator. I mean come on. I dont think hanging around the Terry trial was the best place to start looking.
If you thought the Senegal tackling was a bit sharp on Thursday, you should take a look at our Womens' game against The Cameroons - 'industrial' would be a good word for the challenges from the opposition defenders. Ouch...
Well that was a waste of three billion. Not a single medal. I simply don't get cycling. I had a grifter and a Rayleigh 12 gear tourer with black satchel. I never had to ride down to Greenwich park in a piddle or what fancy French word that describes the group of cyclist that are not going to winthe race. I always got down there before any of the other kids from the special schools by sheer pedal power. Will someone please explain the tactics to me. Seemed like we blamed the Germans which is fine by me. Btw I just downloaded the isles of wonder opening ceremony album-bloody amazing it is. Take a tip typ, Delete Drizzy rascal and Trakter and the album immediately becomes a classic.
I still couldn't give a tuppeny f@@k about the olympics. I will concede that the opening ceremony was terrific (before the bore fest of the athletes walk on). But I'm back to being underwhelmed now.
I have managed to totally avoid this event, well that's not true I turned on the news @10 to see the world 'News' and accidently caught Mark Cavendish having a hissy fit when asked if competing in the Tour of France had a detrimental effect on his chances of winning a gold medal
The women's hockey team were superb - really impressive. Brilliant effort from Rebecca A in the swimming. The Dutch cheese-rolling team were simply unstoppable.
I'm trying to watch a few things I wouldn't normally think of going for - Archery (although I used to do that), Judo, Handball (scary), Water Polo, Synchronised Diving (very clever, but how do you score it?), Basketball, Hockey and even some Boxing. The White Water canoe/kayak looked damned difficult. The hockey this afternoon vs Japan was a cracking game, so skilful - nearly fell over laughing when they put the gimp masks on for the penalty corners though. The men's football hasn't been too inspiring, although we played well tonight in patches - mind you, watching the highlights of other games, it looks like Neymar is visiting from another planet.
Yes, Ponders, the way she relentlessly pegged back the gap on that last lap bodes well for her main event.
I know what you mean tewkes- I too am trying to watch the sports I have no previous interest in. I decided to give basketball another go- but it really is boring as hell. I think I preferred hand ball. I then watched some sport with a little boat in water. The problem was, as I knew nothing about what was going on, I couldn't decide whether it was boring or if he was just rubbish.
Would someone please please please tell the sodding commentators that there is no "r" between Rebecca and Addlington. Just as there is no "r" between Jessica and Ennis. Does my bloody head in. Sue barker is the worst.
Trying to adjust my computer screen so that I can watch things online today, that Abbey Wood girl is Weightligting at Lunch Time apparently. Also considering not going to a Stag Night on Saturday because I don't want to miss Jessica R Ennis.
If you get a chance, watch the Australian Women's team - they've got a player who looks like a giant version of Vicky Pollard, complete with pineapple hairdo and tattoo, superb player and vastly entertaining to watch - which, you're right, is more than can be said for the game itself. Can't get into it at all.
Wonderful performance by Zoe Smith - another victim of the trolls, apparently - don't these people have anything better to do? http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/olympics/18906465
Our lads are up to second in the Team Gymnastics event. They are performing out of their skins and really do deserve a medal. I don't think the GB team has finished higher than eighth in this event since the 1920s. This may sound a bit weird, but when I watch Chinese and North Korean athletes perform badly, I really do fear that they will be executed for their failures.
That doesn't sound weird at all. Their eyes never betray their feelings so it is hard to tell their fate really.
