Nope. He. XY chromosome. Massive elements of male physiological benefits. Yes there are intersex elements, but XY chromosome means that he has more male physiological benefits than any XX. It's why this person was banned in the world championships. Inclusion should never come before equality. Olympics are the pinnacle of this. Ruined. As a father of a daughter with XX there is no way I would allow them to get into a ring with someone with XY.
I'd assumed from all the fuss it was a trans person but as far as I can gather it's just a mannish woman. I'm not sure why she was banned from competing before, supposedly not a testosterone issue but if it was explained why it was it would clear things up somewhat. The backlash seems harsh on her to me, she can't help how she was born, but I don't know all the facts. I don't see it as being much different to the Williams sisters using their extra height and strength to bludgeon their way to victory repeatedly.
Simple. The Williams sisters have XX chromosome. This athlete is XY. Any XY has higher male attributes and in the context of sport, is considered male.
It amounts to the same thing though, purely by nature all three of them were born with the genes to be bigger and stronger than other women in their chosen sport. What do we do with this Algerian woman, put her up against blokes instead even though she was born a woman and could get pregnant and give birth? I don't agree with trans women competing against people born women but I think this case is more nuanced than that.
It is more nuanced. Agreed. It's complex. Females can be stronger than others but if your XY your male in sport. Then equality is gone against XX. Any XY should never be able to compete against XX. I do agree though it's a complex one. But I always revert back to pure biology in this instance and in sport physiological aspects, this athlete has an unfair advantage over XX athletes. I do note that other XX athletes have actually won against however, doesn't change the advantage over some others.
I can see your point of view and agree with it to a large extent. The whole thing's a mess, doesn't appear to be any good answer. As far as I'm concerned trans people should have to have their own competitions in the sake of fairness, not that it would work because there's not enough of them and viewing figures would be bad. But how do people like Imane fit in, you can't say to her she has to compete against people born male, it's unfair. Another wrinkle is that boxing is a dangerous sport and that needs consideration. It's very complicated and I don't think there's any clean and simple way to resolve it.
But if you put her up against a male, XY vs XY wouldn't that be unfair to her? She may be XY, but if born a woman should she not compete against women? You're right though, it's complex, and probably above my level of understanding.
People won't like my answer here but in terms of physiological benefits and testosterone benefits and sport, the athlete is male. Either it's a male Vs male fight or don't compete. That's the only way to properly safeguard complete XX female athletes.
Changing the subject - did anyone see the BMX racing tonight? It’s so fast it’s mental. 8 riders competing and it’s every man/ woman for themselves. Apparently it’s a contact sport so there are plenty of crashes. The British girl - Beth Shriever - seems to be head and shoulders above the rest. She won her 3 quarter final heats tonight by a decent margin each time. She also won gold in Tokyo. Semi finals and final tomorrow.
I watched it, enjoyed it...as you say, mental. The British lass was different class, led from the off in all her heats. Finals tomorrow I think, could be another gold there I think.
Yeah - the Aussie girl had faster times in all 3 of her heats. Still as it’s a bit hectic anything could happen to any of them.
According to Google….. The semi-final format will see riders compete in three heats with the top eight making the one-lap final and race for gold
