Same here, I thought it was gonna be ****. I'd still rather be watching Saints play though, so hurry up and end, Olympics.
Funny really. I was hugely cynical too, but I realised that I'd been secretly pleased that London had beaten Paris to holding the Olympics. The problem had been that China had thrown huge resources at the Olympics and I couldn't see the UK doing anything other than making itself a bit of a laughing stock, both in terms of infrastructure, organisation and quality from the athletes. Although the evidence was to the contrary, I thought Team GB were going to fold under the pressure of being the Host side. And with a few days to go, I was starting to become slightly engaged by it all, and wary that it would be a dramatic failure. But there were whispers that we could be expectant. And it has been completely different to my worst fears. The London Olympics have been a bloody revelation, so far. From the Opening Ceremony on, the scope and organisation of the event has been brilliant. They've even managed to get almost no false starts..! How have they managed that..? Most of the infrastructure will stay and be an infinite improvement on what went before. Team GB have responded like I could never have imagined, and I am totally and utterly stupefied by their achievements, so far. Although there have been disappointments, like GB football, there was even enough there for me to want for there to be a GB football team in Brazil in 2016, of both genders, that is. I'm going to praise Auntie Beeb for the utterly brilliant coverage. The new multi-iPlayer has been brilliant. There is barely a sport you haven't been able to see, and find out individuals details about. The coverage is easily the best there has ever been. At times, I have felt like a child watching my first Olympics I can remember well - Mexico 1968 [I can vaguely remember little bits of Japan 1964], so well has the excitement been conveyed. It has certainly been helped by this superb GB team, and I can't be the only one so affected. Like Dan, I'll be really sorry these Olympics will be over, but the great positives will surely push through to the Paralympics. And even though loads of people will press their buttons to another channel, they would do well to stay, because Team GB will almost certainly astound them again by their superiority over the rest of the World. The good feeling is going to continue after the weekend. Lastly, thank you Summer. You've just about improved dramatically enough to not wash away these Olympics. At least you've kept 99% of the rain away from the Village. And apparently, you're going to improve tomorrow and continue. Amazing.
Very well said. I'm already looking forward to the 2016 Olympics, and may for the first time actually keep up with the next Commonwealth Games!
The one problem with Rio, it'll be the middle of the night for a lot of the events, unless they plan on showing the good events at a Euro-friendly time, which I doubt will happen.
Yeah true. If my sleep pattern is the same in 4 years (lord I hope not) then it won't be a problem for me
That'll REALLY remind me of Mexico 1968. That was the first Olympic Games where Satellites were used to reliably convey TV pictures. In colour too..! Another thing I forgot to mention about the Olympic Games - I don't them to screw about with the Olympic Stadium. I want it to stay as a National Stadium. I know, I know, it's a ridiculous thought, because there will never be the call for its capacity again, but it is a magnificent stadium and I think it'll be a shame when it is altered to suit a football club.
It actually is one of the ideas that has been submitted for what happens to the stadium after the games.
Yes, I am aware of that. I just think F1 or any kind of motorsport [MotoGP included] is totally unsuited to a stadium like that. And I don't care whether they have similar in other countries, that's my view. I'd rather have West Ham or Orient have it separately or ground share, and at present, I'd rather have that scenario not come to pass either.
Day 12 folks. Much quieter today but we do have the BMX with Shazza this afternoon and a bit of boxing and showjumping. Not much chance in athletics though.
