At the time we were being bankrolled by Gaydamak so could afford them and I naively thought the club was being fairly well run behind the scenes. As for the Suarez thing, let's just agree to disagree although I still think he's a twat.
How do you think Cork will be affected by GB duty. He has had competitive matches, but has missed most of preseason. A wonderful experience for him, but has he fallen behind in preparedness or do you think it is a positive thing.
Poor performance by England women tonight, but like the World Cup you have to question the managers tactics - leaving Yankey and Farah Williams on the bench seems mad. I have been critical of Pearce's tactics in the past too (as I thought both men and womens teams would come up short) however so far he has done quite well, but surely our defence is too fragile...
I think one or two of the Canadians picked up some tips from their ice hockey colleagues on how to play dirty.
Typical can't rely on anyone. I should become a pro tipster Let's hope the men do the business instead.
Ranked 7th in the world prior to the tournament, two spots above England (though probably on equal footing with a GB team). About a decade ago, they were expected to be the prime challengers to the dominance of the United States, as Christine Sinclair is absolute world-class, and almost led Canada to the junior championship (they lost the final to the US, but were the only team to actually challenge them). Hasn't worked out that way, as they tend to fall apart in big tournaments, but when on their game it's not a shock result by any means. Just too bad that they play the States in the semis, which in all likelihood means a fight for bronze against the French.
I would imagine Canadian players have a significant advantage over GB players: The fact that (again, I would imagine) there are lots of them in the US Women's Professional Soccer League and there may even be a Canadian team or two as there are in the MLS, giving them much greater experience and the benefits of full-time training would no doubt be substantial. It's a shame though, GB getting to the semi's or better would have done a lot more for Women's Football in this county.
Not sure who was better on paper but on the night, Canada deserved it. Anyway, I'm off to Bournemouth Poppies v Lymington Town. Olympic standard not expected.
