And if we finished first, we could have got Madrid. A team who are going to throw everything they have at winning the CL this year. Equally as hard as Barca.
Since when a game against West Brom is more meaningful than the difference between first and second in the CL group?
Exactly, but a lot of people on here are in denial, and will latch onto any excuse to try and defend how sh!t we are. Yeah, we've been playing really bad now for weeks, because our games have been meaningless as well, lol.
Shaktar are well tasty and with the 2nd leg away! Arsenal would be underdogs. Tougher than Malaga IMO
Look, if we're gonna win the thing (doubtful) we'll have to face a big team anyway. Whether you get Barcelona in the semi or the last 16, it makes no difference other than a little extra cash.
If we get first, and get a top team, that's unlucky, we did our part and job to get top, whatever happens is out of our control. BUT, if we get Barca, we will know we got them because we didn't do our best, and so it's entirely our fault. Any tough team we get as a result of coming second, was ENTIRELY AVOIDABLE, that's the main difference, if you can avoid putting yourself at a disadvantage, do you not take it? So huge difference between the 2.
The point really, is that there shouldn't *BE* B-Team players. They're ALL players in the FIRST TEAM SQUAD. Which out of RvP, Hernandez, Welbeck, & Rooney would you call "B-Team?" Presumably Hernandez & Wellbeck. Still significantly better than Chamakh though aren't they? The first team squad should be FULL of players who can come in, seamlessly, and play in the first team. It shouldn't be a "First 11" and then "the rest." In most places it isn't, because there's rotation. It is at Arsenal. If you're not in the first 11, you only ever play because of injuries. For Arsenal, the first team is usually: Chesney, Gibbs, Vermaelen, Merts, Jenks, Arteta, Wilshere, Cazorla, Theo, Giroud, Pod. Of "the rest" only: Jenks, Koscielny, Diaby, Rosicky, Oxo (pushing it), Ramsey (SERIOUSLY pushing it) are fit to be replacements. That gives a MASSIVE squad of 17 players out of 25. That's EIGHT spaces taken up by dross.
The CL is different now. The days of their being a clear difference between the teams that finish first and second is gone. So it's not really a huge difference anymore. Anyway, it's not like we are going to win this, so frankly why does it matter if we got out in the last 16 or the last 8? Sooner or later we would get a tough team, and they would dump us out.
As I said, that would be hard luck, but when we get a tough team because we didn't take our opportunity to end first, that's entirely our fault.
Our B Team went to a decent Olympiakos side, in a meaningless game and lost 2-1. What is with all the OMGWEWILLDIE crap now. In think we'll get Malaga, who are beatable.
Not really. I'd rather come 2nd in the group and play the likes of Shaktar, and Malage than come first and play Juvenile or Real
You keep saying the game was meaningless, which is a blatant lie, we had the opportunity to come first today, so quit saying today's game was meaningless, because it wasn't. Secondly, that wasn't a B team, 7 of the 11 were first team players. Thirdly, if our B team is so weak that they lose to any decent side, then that's a further damnation of how weak Arsenal are. And no, we aren't crap because of today's result, we've been crap because of a SERIES OF RESULT, of which, today's game was a continuation of that pattern, unless you're trying to put a wool over everybody's eyes and pretend that today's game was a one off? We have been crap for a long time, which is why we sit 10th in the league, which is why we haven't won a game in 4 matches, and which is also why we've only won 3 games in 10. Unless you look at all the stats and conclude they prove we're amazing?
The fact you'd rather come 2nd, shows there's no point in having any purposeful discussion with you, when a supposed football fan starts saying he hopes his team comes second, you know that fan is beyond reason and beyond any hope of having a proper talk with. Good for you, you can go hoping Arsenal would rather come second. I have nothing to say to that.
