Quite untrue, old boy! Only 17m out of a population of 66m voted to leave. That is not a majority of the UK. Only 17m out of an eligible electorate of 46m voted to leave. That's only 37%, btw. That is not a majority of the UK, not of the eligible electorate. Hardly a resounding majority, is it?
Slightly less. 35% vs 37% Meaning 28% didn't vote. If there was another referendum, I don't think anyone could call it one way or the other, tbh.
Simple question why do people take more notice of the 2016 referendum than the previous referendum and when is the next one going to be, seems only fair to have best out of three
No matter how the figures are carved up, more people voted to leave the corrupt Union, and democracy should be upheld. the 28% who didn't bother are irrelevent
What's happened to DBC he seemed to be in full flow earlier. Thought of a new name for him. BTC (banana, tea, coffee)
We aren’t a democracy. We are a representative democracy. Which means you vote only to appoint a representative for your own constituency. You have no control over how that person votes or indeed how any of other representatives vote in the rules that bind us. You don’t vote for the rules that bind us. You only vote to decide one person who decides on those rules. It’s known as Parliamentary sovereignty. The fundamental part of our governing system is that Parliament is sovereign. So Parliament gets to decide what to do, whatever way the whole electorate voted (or didn’t as the case may be). That’s what taking back control and Parliamentary sovereignty means. Basically, it’s why all Brexiters have been mugged off. Even with a hard Brexit (probably even more so given the Leave campaign promises). The electorate thought they had a meaningful vote, which C*meron said he would uphold, but then he resigned and as a result from a constitutional perspective the 2016 vote actually only has moral rather than legal weight. They, the electorate (us) have been lied to.
The EU have said that they will not enter into any more negotiations with the UK. Surely the Remain camp must realise that the UK is being treated with utter contempt by the EU. Whatever your personal opinion, stay or go, remainers should be able to recognise the fact that the PM is grasping at straws in believing that the EU views the UK as anything more than a cash cow and has no respect for her as a sovereign nation. Sorry, guys, but I can see good old England going down the pan with this one.
Nope, I’m talking cold hard brutal honest facts. I’m afraid that’s our constitution. I don’t like it either faod.
No you’re wrong. Most Scots voted to stay in our corrupt union. Now the corruption and incompetence has been fully exposed, they’ll be out as soon as they get the chance.
Nobody. That was the farce of the referendum. It was a proper stitch up. Has absolutely no constitutionally binding element to it, especially once Cameron resigned. It does, if course, carry moral weight. Our representatives could hardly ignore completely the fact that a majority of voters said they wanted to leave. But there’s absolutely nothing in our constitution that binds our representatives to do what we want, even if we voice it in the largest organised vote the country has ever had. Our “democracy” is a joke mate.
