Maggie Thatcher stood down cos many of her Conservative Party Members didn't like her harsh critique against the EU. or the EEU / EEC as it was known back then. While she wanted to stay in the Singles Market at the beginning, she came to realise just how corrupt the EEC were and how Britain was being used and ripped off by the corrupt EEC polly's, some of'em are still in the EU Parliament today. Maggie Thatcher wasn't a big fan of the EEC, or what they stood for, and she didn't have a problem telling'em either. She recognised the corruption, and future corruption of the EEC, which is why she's included in the list of bigwigs who warned us.
I don't agree, it was more to do with the Poll Tax, Michael Heseltine, being seen as out of touch and authoritarian. The European union was in there too, as some felt the UK had lost their ability to influence the development of the EU due to her stance, a prophetic observation as it turns out. I don't really want a debate about Thatcher she is gone. History has recorded her actions and so it is documented and can be read by those who care.
CORRECTION MADE Maggie Thatcher did not step down, she was kicked out by the members of her own party, just like what is happening to TM
Do you know why? Because under all previous Conservative leaders we were part of the Conservative grouping (European people’s party I think may be the name). The weak cowardly twat pulled us out because he wanted to appease the right wingers. So as a result he had NO allies. Thatcher and Major always has allies and got at least part of what they wanted
Well if I was to offer a balanced critique of her political career I thought she did a great job of dying and then staying dead.
I know you didn't like her Olof, I personally loved her, but I agree, her members pushed her, and the Poll Tax didn't help. She had options, stay and fight, or resign, she chose to resign. I think back then she thought she was getting a bit old for job, although she continued her influence, and attacks on corrupt EEC / EU after she stood down. Whatever anyone's stance on Maggie Thatcher, she put Britain back on map, and kept Britain Britain.
The effing police bowing down to left and leading the DFLA rally straight to Antifa......Things are slowly boiling.
